will i still face this issue when i install 2.0?? [see previous posts by me for explanation of issue]
There should be no mysql errors or other errors in 2.0.  Of course it will be going through a beta test phase to be sure :)

Hi,
This mod looks great.
Is it compatible with the SimpleBlog Mod?
Or can i somehow convert the data to your mod?

This mod uses SMF's boards, topics, and messages tables.  If your data is stored in those tables, then it's simply a matter of using the admin-only convert board to blog function in your blog control panel.

Webrunner

No, blogposts in a seperate table and the comments too :(

I'll have a look at SimpleBlog... and while I'm at it I'll look at FelBlog as well.  I know that uses its own table also.  I'll try to come up with some conversion kits :)

Or I might be able to just add more conversion functions for admin use only.

Webrunner

Wow, that would be great!

Another question: Dies storing blogposts as forum messages also mean that they are displayed in f.i. serach results? And in what way?

Yes I am working on adding flags to all areas of Simple machines forum that will omit blog articles/comments from search results, recent posts, etc.

Thanks Charles, you're really helpful - definitely what I would describe as a commited SMF developer. Can't wait for the release!
Cheers,
Sam. :)

Hi Charles, this is an awesome mod, I have a question though, would it be possible to add a blog icon to the post information of a person that has a blog? You know over on the side of the post where you avatar and such is, maybe below the email, messenger icons and such.

Would it be a lot of trouble to add that, I think it would be an awesome addition and since it creates a link in the profile I assume you already have them linked somehow?

Thanks in advance!

Charles Hill

Yes that is possible.  Wouldn't even have to add any queries to make it happen.  I'll look at it tonight.  I have been reluctant to make a lot of unnecessary edits to SMF's core files (especially templates).

C.Jack

I agree with mediabob.... That would be a nice addition.

Yeah, I can see why you would be reluctant to want to modify to many template files, I would be happy if you just tell me how to do it and I can add it in on my own if you don't want to "officially" add it  8)

Oh yeah, maybe you can help me with something else to . . .

I want to display on my homepage the 10 most recent blog entries. I got it to display the entries fine, that was pretty easy, but I would like to link that to the actual blog so they see the entry title, click it, and are taken to the blog so they can read it. When I attempted it clicking the link took me to the entry, but it was in a forum post view instead of the blog, what would be the best way to link it to the blog entry?

Sorry if i am annoying  :-X

Kindred

wow...   this is actually the first time I saw this thread/mod.

I'm using a Blog theme for projects over on my site.... but it's getting annoying to keep adding a new child board, etc each time a user wants a blog...  This looks nearly perfect.

Questions:
- When do you (or do you at all) plan to support this mod in smf 2.0?
- Is there the ability to have multiple authors post to the same blog (i.e. we have a group that are blogging the same project. I'd like the 5 of them to post to the same blog.)
- how does one determine if it is a blog post versus a forum post? (Is there a tag in one of the smf tables?)

If the 3rd question has an affirmative answer, once you get this running for 2.0, I'll write an SSI function for you so this can be added to people's external sites, CMSes, etc....

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words, kindred :)

1.  Yes I do plan to support it for 2.0.  I've already made some minor adjustments to make it easier to do so later on.  I was planning on doing that once I was ready to release the 1.1.x version as a final.

2.  Yes.  Multiple people have expressed an interest in allowing multiple authors to a single blog.  You can add individual authors or you can add entire groups as authors.  All authors must still have posting permissions for that board (if local) or global posting permissions.  Messing with a single blog's posting restrictions will not affect the overall site's permissions at all.  I figured that would just get messy and confusing.

3.  There is a flag in the boards table that tells you a board is a blog (the column blog_board).  Messages/topics tables don't have flags to explicitly tell you they are in blog boards.

I have been wanting to develop an SSI function or two for this.  If you wanted to do that, that would be awesome :)

Webrunner

a few more questions:
- do blogs show up in a person's profile?
- are there personal blog statistics available
- I am offering personal blogs only for all payed users. Is that possiblke with this mod?

Charles Hill

1. Yes
2. What kinds of statistics?
3. Yes there are several different permissions just for blogs.  You can allow/disallow the feature entirely and allow/disallow specific features within the blog feature.

Good news, though.  v1.12 should be ready within a week.  :)

Looking forwards to that too, checking the site every day :D

Charles, since its gone way over a week, is it allowed to ask an estimate at when 1.12 will come ? ;)

Charles Hill

I wanted to clean up a lot of the code, because I will be planning to make add-on packages and patches from here on out.  Also I've been getting Degrees of Zero itself ready for the release.  Trust me, you won't be disappointed :)
