hey guys

im not sure if this is in the correct section apologies if not

I have been a long standing user of phpbb but currently im sick of it. Ive heard a lot of good about smf and i was considering switching over.

I have a couple of questions i hope some one can answer for me.

1. Can i sustain my posts members and topics using a converter without much trouble (phpbb3.02)
2. does smf support with a mod perhaps static urls for example hxxp:forum.example.com/topictitle/post [nonactive] number ect
3. Is it possible to have post numbers for each topics and stand alone posts
4. forum category icons possible ?

and finally my biggest concern is the resources used on the server... i run aboard with about 50 active members and have currently about 15 000 posts most likely it will continue on to 50 000 or so in the future.

thanks in advanc

  • The converter does its best to convert data. Most of our converters convert more than the important data (ie, users and posts).

    • Static urls do not help SEO, If that is what you are going for.
    • We do have a built in SEF urls, but they do not do what you want. We do have Modifications on our mod site that do provide things such as this. One of them is SEO4SMF
  • You will have to explain this more.
  • Icons for each category? or each board? I want to clarify this, in SMF termonoligy, a Category would be something such as the Getting Started With SMF and a board is something such as Converting to SMF.
In all, The converter will not alter any of your previous forum data. It will simply make a copy of it into the SMF database. So you are safe to install SMF and test the conversion out, seeing how you like things or what mods you want installed.
