V.I.P. Mod and other suggestions

You have the star settings on post count, but I thought for those really dedicated posters out there a V.I.P. Section would be good.  say the 5 star count is set to 1500.  When reaching 2500 posts you get given V.I.P status which allows you to enter say a V.I.P board and maybe extra profile options and other gubbins as it is people who post and stick around who help your forums appeal.

Also an Easy way to add extra registration information like for my Xbox forum is would be really useful to have a gamertag for Xbox Live! entry.

Sorry I am on a roll here.  Maybe you could also have single smiley post remover or stop users from posting single smiley face replies to topics as that gets really annoying very quickly

Oh and one last thing, a News mod....  This is a great feature for sites to be able to use a forum to post news and have a good comments system, I think this would also be a good addition to the standard install :D

1. Whilst there aren't 6 posting member groups (that I know of) I'm pretty sure the membersystem will at least allow you to give the different posting member groups access to different forums and options etc.
2. I'm not sure if adding registration info is planned or completed or what... but its been brought up... if its not then definately mod material.
3. Not standard feature.... but I'm sure someone will make a mod for it (me if you want ;))
4. This kinda thing is hard... mainly coz most people want it to connect to a specific portal... however if I get around to it I may write some mods for it (this definately wouldn't be a standard feature). Just a general one like a single page that runs of a template... like index.php?page=news or something... if its something like that.. then I'll definately port my portal news system for it. (I'm making an entire portal/cms that will link with SMF... but converting the news system would be no prob).
So all posts in a certain board would all get arranged on the news page.. depends what you want...

Thanks for your replies.  Yabb SP and Gold have a news thing, so I imagine it wouldn't be too difitcult to adapt it.  Worth the effort though.

Well, at least in YaBBSE the post thing is easy, you don't even need another membergroup really, just: if ($settings[6] >= 2500) {show stuff}
There's more efficient ways to do it to make it re-usable, but that's the quick hack method. Be just as easy in SMF, though the variable is prolly different.

SMF already has news stuff ::).  So did YaBB SE.

SMF and YaBB SE had news stuff... but wasn't it -just- the little thing at the top??

I think what he (she?) means is to have an individual page, where the latest 10 or so (admin set) news pieces are listed (only the post, no replies) and to have links back to the news board where they were posted (and where any replies are). So only admins (or news posters) can post new topics, and when they do they are added to this main news page.

also: come mid november, I'll be out of school forever... so I'll be happy to start writing a few mods :D

... well whada u know ... how long had YaBB SE had that feature? and is it easily skinnable in SMF now...?
hmmm... also you have to specify a board... (it'd be nice to be able to just mark specific topics as news or something...). And can the admin choose how many to display? and how are they ordered?
(heheh, damn you people have thought of everything ;D)

for ever!  there is a limit setting and they are ordered DESC :D

And you can "skin" it however you want in yabbse, too...Some of mine don't look at all like the normal version.

So ordered descending from time of posting right...? (just making sure...) as apposed to descending from last replied to... if so.. coo ;D (and I dunno how I missed out on finding this option... :D aa well... I've been using my homemade cms for it anyway)

So what code (both php and cgi please) do you need to pull a board for YaBB SE to insert into an already made page?

Also how do you alter the look for the news as before there was a template file just for news listings and can you limit the amount of posts shown on one page?
