Charles - it's looking awesome so far,  can't wait for the next update! I REALLY like the new blog control panel, which includes the link to post a new article to your blog, the mybloglog/blog catalog links, and all of the other features. I think this is probably the best put together mod out there so far, and your hard work shows (even with the few kinks that it currently has). I can't wait until a more stable version comes out so I can get it up and running on my live site.

Hmmm... where ARE these?  Or is that a later mod... ?  In which case, my question is, where are the codelines?

Also, not seeing that I, too, wanted to add my blogs to blog catalog and have been looking for a way to do this.  I wrote to them and explained the situation, hoping they, on their end, may be able to give me the proper widget.

Instead, here is what they said:

QuoteHi Marige,

I would suggest that users place the linkback or button at the bottom of their most recent post during the review process. Once approved they are free to remove the link back. If you have any other questions just let me know.

Now... if only I could EDIT my blogs.  :(  I've mentioned this before, but never found a solution.  Any idea why that icon won't show up?  Some say it does in Firefox... great.  I don't want to work in Firefox. (I already do specific work in that browser and I'd rather not mix the two.)

If that's so, wouldn't it be a matter of my IE7 security set-up?  Which toggles would do something like that?

All help is appreciated.

Internet Explorer is a nightmare.... All other browsers (google chrome, firefox, safari, opera) seem to interpret things fairly similarly.  IE is the one that just doesn't want to do things properly.  I am trying my best to make BC as compatible as possible, but it's difficult.

Hello Charles, Thanks for this wonderful mod...This is the most powerful mod i have seen here on SMF..i rated it higher then that admod. I can just do about everything wordpress does...congrats.

meanwhile i installed it manually and its working...The problem

that i want to know if adsense ads shows up on the blog pages since i see something like plug-in- on the admin cpanel

Charles Hill

I am nearing a release-ready version of 2.0.3 Beta.  It will have fully functional themes and plug-ins system.  And yes one of the plug-in I am planning will allow for easy use of Google Adsense and advanced ad management (with future support for other ad networks).

You should check out http://degreesofzero.com for updates and the latest news :D

That would be great. I cant wait to see the upgrade.

what exactly can the plug-ins on this version do? Is there anything i can install on the mod from there?

Charles Hill

@ mikemikemike... I'll be testing it with tiny portal installed on blank SMF... So there should be no compatibility issues with that.  I don't have a release date, but it is very close.

@sam_milla ... The plug-ins system will be quite easy.  There will be a bunch of plug-in "slots" which will be positioned in key places to allow for maximum extensibility of the software.  You install a plug-in by putting the plug-in's .php file in the Plugins directory in the BlogCommunity directory (forum/BlogCommunity/Plugins).  Files are automatically detected and read.  Each plugin will have its own functions to fire in different plug-in slots (depending upon what functionality is adding).  Each plug-in will have its own settings that you can manage via the plug-ins tab in the blog control panel.

Afro

Thanks....What i really wanna know is if there are already places where i can download the plugin from / or can any plug in just fit there?.

i know that Charles is working on some, and i have an idea for another one, just gota be patient lol.. ;)

Ok, thats good...i thought there are some of them already there.

meanwhile i got this error from my forum error log...

''http://afrowall.com/index.php?action=blogs
8: Undefined index: sideWindows
File: /home/afrowall/public_html/Themes/default/Blog.template.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 614''

What do you think is causing it? ''

Charles Hill

There are a few bugs with 2.0.2 Beta.  That's one of them.  I have to head out right now, but you should be able to find the fix for that one somewhere in this top.  Try searching just this topic for Undefined index: sideWindows

Afro

Thanks for your fast responses...You are a great guy

Charles maybe you can modify the code of the mod to hide the blocks and the panels of the portal mods , is change the actual "index.php?blog=90.0" to something like "index.php?action=blogs;viewblog=90.0" with this you can hide all the panels for the blogs action , I dont know if this is really hard but is the best method to fix that issue.

I test the 2.0.3 and works great but I cant hide the Details window from the blogs

ke4obt

maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear the screen reader read what I'm looking for.
I'm trying to install the easy edit meta data mod, I already have the Blog community mod installed. The install fails on themes/default/index.template.php.
I take out the blog, easy edit goes in fine and vice versa.
So, obviously, they both edit the same section.
Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to fix it so they both work at the same time??

Thanks in advance,
Flip

Yes I am really a BLIND user!

So, if a mod doesn't install properly, and I can't get help from your part of the forum,
I will come begging for YOUR help since you wrote it and know how it works
um, uh, well,
At least I would really, really hope you do!

Yes, Blog Community edits the meta tags in your index.template.php file.  I have never used the easy edit meta tags mod, so I don't know the details, but you will have to somehow combine the code from both mods if you wish to have both co-exist.  The code for the blog community around the meta tags mostly applies to when viewing blog community pages, so when the variables related to the blog community are empty in the meta tags, you could opt to use the variables from easy edit meta tags mod instead.

Charles,
thanks for the reply. I have been using the blog mod on a test site and really like it. I have also used the easy edit meta data in the past and like that mod too.
However, I am blind and coding-ignorant (a.k.a. stupid - hehe). If I were to post the code that easy edit wants to put there, is there any way you could look at it and suggest how to combine them? I am not a coder of any sort by any stretch of anybody's imagination. I know how to upload, activate and install mods - and my wife thought she'd break the sledge hammer getting me to learn that much! :D
So, if you could do that, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again,
Flip

Sure.  Post them and I'll do it when I get a chance.

Thank you very much. I tried to twist my head around this one to see all the angles, but got dizzy. :) almost as if someone was speaking martian to me.

The code that is supposed to go into the index.template.php is:
./Themes/default/index.template.php
Find: [Select]
<meta name="description" content="', $context['page_title'], '" />
Replace With: [Select]
';
echo (!empty($modSettings['meta_description'])) ? ' <meta name="description" content="'. $modSettings['meta_description'] .'" />' : '<meta name="description" content="'. $context['page_title'] .'" />

Find: [Select]
, '
<meta name="keywords" content="PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, smf, simple, machines, forum" />
Replace With: [Select]
;
echo (!empty($modSettings['meta_keywords'])) ? '
<meta name="keywords" content="'. $modSettings['meta_keywords'] .'" />' : '';
echo (!empty($modSettings['meta_copyright'])) ? '
<meta name="copyright" content="'. $modSettings['meta_copyright'] .'" />' : '';
echo (!empty($modSettings['meta_author'])) ? '
<meta name="author" content="'. $modSettings['meta_author'] .'" />' : '';
echo '

It's supposed to put a section into the admin to put your meta data which is a big plus for a blind user.
The link to the mod is http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1211 in case there is something else you need to know.

Btw - we are running SMF 117 and 2.0.2 of Blog Community.

Again, thanks for your help,
Flip

p.s. I've only been working on the site for about 18 months. Every time I get something done that seems to be decent or that I like on there, I either mess it up or change my mind. :D
Thanks Much

I tried installing this mod but when I did it said the file was corrupt. Is there something I did wrong?

Of the three blogs running on my site, the ownership of two has changed from the member, to Admin. I checked the sql database and according to that, this hasn't happened - they each have the original owners...

smf 1.1.7, tp, Blog Community 2.0.2 Beta

Later: ok, in database I found blogs as boards and changed ownership back.
