Hello, till today I never had any problem upgrading my forum.

But it seems impossible to upgrade from 1.1.7 to 2; this message continues to return back to me:

The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted.

I downloaded the large update zip file and trying to upgrade through the package manager, but that error message keeps returning.

Ps I have installed version 1.1.7 with areo_79 theme and 0.98 TP, italian language.

When I try to do the upgrade I convert the theme to the defaulf one and the language to english? Is this necessary?
Could TP be the problem, I've tryed to uninstal it but an error message returns, so maybe should I delete it?

Thank you very much for help

Nathaniel

You can't upgrade from SMF 1.1.7 to SMF 2 Beta 4 using the package manager.
Upgrade SMF

You will have to upload the 'Large Upgrade' files (unzipped) for SMF 2 Beta 4 into your SMF diretory, probably using FTP. And then run the 'upgrade.php' file in your browser.
How do I use FTP? / What is FTP?

Remember that it will uninstall all your mods, and that they may not be compatible with SMF 2, so you may not be able to reinstall them. Your custom themes may also not work with SMF 2.

Don't forget to backup your forum's files + database first!

I am trying to upgrade my 1.1.7 forum to the 2.0 beta 4.  I have followed your instructions (i think) but am still getting an error message.

My forum is here: hxxp:www.thebenjaminresource.com/the_forum/ [nonactive]

I uploaded the large update folder (unzipped) to /the_forum/ so the update.php file should be here:  hxxp:www.thebenjaminresource.com/the_forum/smf_2/update.php [nonactive]

But I am still getting this error:

Warning: require_once(/home/content/b/e/n/bencharity/html/the_forum/smf_2/Settings.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/b/e/n/bencharity/html/the_forum/smf_2/upgrade.php on line 91

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/content/b/e/n/bencharity/html/the_forum/smf_2/Settings.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/b/e/n/bencharity/html/the_forum/smf_2/upgrade.php on line 91

I have tried uploading it again and also tried placing it in my root folder, but still getting the error.  I don't seem to have the 'Settings.php' file anywhere...should I?

Any help would be great

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Is this issue solved or do you still require assistance?

I have a problem too upgrading from 1.1.7 tot 2.0 beta 4.

I have installed the 2.0 version and I am running the upgrade script. After step 4 it stops, leaving a blank page. I have had the script running for 2 hours but still nothing happens.

What can I do?

I still have the same problem.

The update script gets to this point:

Database Changes
Executing database changes
Please be patient - this may take some time on large forums. The time elapsed increments from the server to show progress is being made!

Executing: "" (0 of 0).

Database Updates Complete! Click Continue to Proceed.

When I click on proceed I get a blank screen. The forum remains in maintanance mode...

I have tried several thing:
Because this is on old forum dating back from Yabbse and it has ben converted several times, I decided to make a clean 1.1.7 install and I have put back the data from the old forum. Also I have set the forum to the default theme. There are no mods. I checked the forum working properly in 1.1.7 before uploading the large upgrade files.

Ik looks like the upgrade script is not doing any database changes. after filling in the upgrade options it jumps immediately to the status mentioned above.

I restored the 1.1.7. forum again. Downloaded the large upgrade script and the language files again to avoid the possibility of a corrupt upgrade script. And then tried to do the upgrade again with the same results.

Can anybody help me?

Aizo

I have read the thread about the blank screen when upgrading to beta 4. It said something about skipping the MODS portion. How do you do this???

dimip77, is this issue resolved now?

Aizo, you can try uninstalling all your mods first before you do the upgrade to see if it helps. If it still has problems, open up your own topic and we will help you out there. Too many users asking for help in the same topic will cause a lot of confusions ;)

Great! I followed Nathaniel's method and succeeded. Thank you very much!
