Hi Guys:

I already installed XAMPP and a fresh copy of 1.14 on that server in my local computer. All is working fine with  XAMPP, but I can't make work my backup copy ( a running forum in the real world)  of my forum in the local XAMPP server.

I'm not very good using SMF and php scripts but I guess somebody can help me out. One of the problems is I can fin the local directory in http://localhost/smf/ [nofollow] and all files are there but when trying to open the public html files is giving me this:

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

My questions are :

1.- How I can backup files the right way into my SMF folder and...how to restore the database to that forum?

2.- I have the database backup but how I can restore that and to what directory?

Thanks for the help. I will like to try this before upgrading and doing some modifications ( templates , etc) to my running forum.

You also can answer back to me at : [email protected]

Thanks

Lionel

Do the backup straight from phpMyAdmin. It's the easiest and best way to restore databases. Have you ever used it before?

You mean the backup from my live site? Yes..this is the one I'm using. I always do backup thru PhpMyadmin...but how I can restore that to the local server?

Thanks for the help. I was not waiting answers until late morning...great !!

Hey it's early evening here and I'm having a coffee. :D

Anyway XAMPP gives you phpMyAdmin so you just log into as normal and select your database, then Import at the top of the page. This brings up a page which allows you to browse to the backup file and upload it. Pretty normal stuff. Usually if it's a sizable backup you'll have to resubmit it a few times but it goes pretty quickly on a local host.

Also you really shouldn't still be running 1.1.4. Too risky. Go for an upgrade.

Is not working.  I got this error when importing...and I only have 68 tables when my original database have 87,

Error

SQL query:

# ========================================================== # # Database dump of tables in `liobett_forum` # November 29, 2008, 01:09:35 PM # # ========================================================== # # Dumping data in `vb_ads` # INSERT INTO `vb_ads` (`ADS_ID`, `NAME`, `CONTENT`, `BOARDS`, `POSTS`, `CATEGORY`, `HITS`, `TYPE`, `show_index`, `show_board`, `show_threadindex`, `show_lastpost`, `show_thread`, `show_bottom`, `show_welcome`, `show_topofpage`, `show_towerright`, `show_towerleft`, `show_betweencategories`, `show_underchildren`) VALUES (2, 'Adsense',

Rumbaar

I'll move this to server area in a minute, be sure to post in the correct areas.

Now the process for exporting and importing onto your localhost, if configured correctly, should be relatively the same as on a live host.  Though sometimes memory issues are an issue.

Try:
How do I save the database data?
How do I restore the database data?

From phpMyAdmin select drop tables, structure and data.  Then import that data into your phpMyAdmin.  If you're using BigDump you might have to export turning off another setting I can't remember.  But it will tell you the error if it's applicable.
