Hi all, Im new to SMF forums, I would like to create a top page with general info that my users will see when they login to the forum.  Kind of like an announcements page or for general notices.  I have seen some SMF sites with this structure, but cant figure out how to do it on my forum.  Im using 1.1.7

Thanks in advance

Do you want a single page dedicated solely to announcements? Or do you just want announcements to show up on the forum?

If it's the latter, you can add announcements under the News tab of the News and newsletters section of the admin control panel. These will show up at the top of your forum. You can also turn on the News Fader by going to the Current Theme section of the admin control panel and checking the Show news fader on board index checkbox.

There are portals that you can add which will give you a home page and various other options.

My preference is Tiny Portal

Sorry for the late response...

Is this issue solved or do you still require assistance?

I installed Tiny Portal and that did the trick- its a bit like killing a fly with a sledgehammer, but Im good with that.  Is there a simpler way to make a landing page?

Unless you want to design your own home page with a distinct link (or timed redirect) to your forum then portals are the way to go.

You do have a choice of portals but I guess it's six of one, half dozen of the other.

Another option is to use blogging software like Wordpress or Serendipity. That could serve your purposes.

Yes, there are a number of portal to pick from now so you should be able to find one that you like or do as Blinker suggested.  I'll mark this as solved.
