before you install ANY mod, you should always take a backup of your files and database.

well that information would of been helpful to me when i started using SMF.

but anyways, isnt there some way you can explain what to do?

(hint: Backups should considered a vital part of ANY computer task, including your home PC.)

if you don't have a backup, then my suggestion is to make a fresh start with a clean set of forum files.
(You won't lose any data, forum data like messages and members is stored in the database.)

Get the 1.1.7 installation package. Copy every file into your forum directories except for the install files and the Settings.php file.

You now have a fresh forum and can start applying mods the right way (taking backups before each mod and verifying the correct implementation of one mod before you apply the next one)

Any news on that ?

Haven't been foruming a lot these days, so maybe I missed something. But I don't find any other allusion to that, in these last pages...

Hi,

I just added a new theme Headline news and I want to change the blogs to match this but they won't change from the theme default core.

I have to options Clean one and SMF Default and neither one show as the theme I am using.

Any ideas how to get this working?

Thanks in advance!!

I think a theme that grabs most of the .css from the forum theme would be great. Since with a dark theme and white text on the rest of the layout, using either of the two themes looks weird. I would like it to grab .css from my theme first and then the rest (if needed) from the mods theme. :) That would make it simpler to change the css-later. Is this possible? ^^

I am unable to replicate the problem you were having.  I'll try to replicate it again with a fresh install of 0.7.4 when i get it put together.  You were using Blog Community previously right?  Did you experience the problem on a forum that had BC installed before you installed zCommunity?

Do you have "Toggle all blog pages to display without forum layers" checked (in the Global Blog Settings page of your control panel).

In 0.7.3 the css stylesheets for your forum's theme were loaded, but then stylesheets from the zCommunity themes folders were loaded, so if they used the same css classes your forum's css would get overwritten.  I switched this around for 0.7.4 so that the css from zCommunity's themes folders would get overwritten and not your forum's themes' css.

I did have Blog Community, but this error is a new thing. I think I had some issues with Blog Community (some comments would be hidden, and there would be no space between the name of the commentator and "on [date]", you'd look like "charles hillon 18.01.09" or something like that), but I never investigated these much, preferring to wait for the brand new mod instead (and actually adoring the new names built by the added "-on"). Maybe some settings would have solved those. I'll never know.

Anyway, right now I'm following the same strategy : Haven't been fighting or exploring that bug much, preferring to wait and see it it still occures after 0.7.3 de-installation and 0.7.4 installation. Will the update require to erase and re-upload the "part 1" folder too ?

Sounds great, looking forward to that. :)

I checked and it was not checked so I checked it then did a hard refresh and still the same, no change.

You will have to delete the old zCommunity folder yes.  Good news though... The installation package will be all one part and all zcomm database tables will be checked and fixed if necessary.  The only problem I've encountered are permissions of the zcommunity folder after installing via the package manager.

Well I saw where there was the forum layers to check in each blogs control panel so I unchecked those and unchecked the community page and now everything seems to be working fine!! LOL Thanks for the help!!

Kindred

Mia,

I gave you instructions.   However, if you are having further problems then start a new thread in the 1.1 support area rather than continuing in this thread which is for support of the zCommunity mod

Still testing it with various things installed before installing zCommunity.  Also going to test it with smf 2.  Theoretically it should work......

Look at the smf link at the bottom ;)

coldfusionpower

aha . interesting ..cant wait for the 2.0.4 ! ....

Charles Hill

What's really cool is that zCommunity (one package) will work with either SMF 1.1.x or SMF 2.0+
I have yet to look at the code of vBulletin, phpBB, and other forum software, but I do plan to make zCommunity for those as well.
