I had a lot of failures in attempting to uninstall BC before installing ZC. Not sure where to go from here? I want to use ZC, but it looks as if there's too many hurdles to jump over before being able to do so? I'm using the SMF multi-color default themes with a bunch of mods.  :(

I attempted to uninstall BC as well.  Here are the errors I received:

MummiesOnline

Hi
I have installed this mod today and I must say "FABULOUS"!!!!

I would like to add a tab though to my "OutlineOmega_115" theme though.

I have tried doing it but can't figure it out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA
Kirsty

Hold for 0.7.4... I'll be releasing it this evening.  I have not tested zCommunity on SMF 2.0 Beta nearly as much as SMF 1.1.x, so there might be some issues I haven't found yet.

For uninstalling Blog Community:

Just like with any other modification for SMF... you'll need to look at the installation package for the mod and do the opposite of what the installation instructions say for the files that the package manager fails on.  First download those files off your server to your computer, then make the necessary uninstall edits, then run the uninstall from your forum's package manager for that mod, then upload the edited files.

Okay, I can do that, but where is the mod page at for BC? I need to get the instructions for a manual install/uninstall.

Thank you! Now where can I find the manual edit instructions at? Is there a parser somewhere that actually works? The one I used to use has seemed to stop working?

Sorry I don't know of any :(  You could try searching simple machines' forum though... might get lucky and find one.

First run QA of zCommunity 0.7.4 alpha

Ok.

Installled cleanly into SMF 2.0 RC1
(yes, I had to run the install_db_edits manually by direct access.)

It slides nicely into the current theme.

Immediate notes:  in the blog control panel sub menu, when you are IN a category, the bordering | | marks between the menu items for the category you are in are missing (i.e. active category has no borders)

Attempting to post a comment on a blog entry, I get:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ARRAY in /site.../zCommunity/Sources/Subs-Comments.php on line 150

clicking RSS feed or RSS Articles feed takes me to:
http://site.com/index.php?zc=.xml;type=rss;get=articles
and geenrate the following error:
Fatal error: Function name must be a string in /site.../zCommunity/Sources/XML.php on line 283
Clicking RSS Comments feed generates a successful XML, which is empty, since I have not been able to submit a comment.

Question: How do I edit a blog entry once it is made (i.e. I made a typo...)
I am an admin, plus I checked the permissions to make sure that the other group I am in has access to all of the edit capabilities.

I chose "add a poll", and entered a poll with options. I click post... but can not find the poll anywhere.
(once I chose"Show polls in sidebar" they appeared. Perhaps this should be noted somewhere? However, I still can not seem to GET to the poll in order to vote in it.)

Users allowed to post articles list (Question: shouldn't the user who started the blog be included on this list by default?)

Permissions screen:
Can view any blog_a  (Question: is this the correct text?)

I'm running EZportal...   I forget... do you have block code available for that or an add-on mod to link someone's profile to their blog and/or blog posts (tied in with smf contributions (i.e. forum posts)?)

Another note about EZPortal, I have a left column set to appear on "All Actions and Boards", but the zCommunity pages do not respect this. (I assume because of the separate templates?)

Suggestion:   IN smf2.0 at least, add a link in the forum admin > modifications section that links to the blog control panel.

Suggestion: in the blog specific internal navigation list, separate the interna nav like the SMF breadcrumbs (i.e. using >> between items like Main>> Kindred's blog)

Suggestion: Use the term "Blog Entry", "Blog Post" or "Post" instead of "article" since article tends to mean something more along the lines of news rather than blog.

note: Having the blog breadcrumbs in a menubar under the main forum breadcrumbs is odd...   either combine the blgo breadcrumbs into the forum breadcrumb trail or hide the forum list/trail and use only the zCommunity trail.

Question: How does one post Community News articles rather than blog specific articles?

edit-- Figured out the problem here and I have corrected it.

Minor syntax error goof.  Forgot a comma.

and geenrate the following error:

QuoteQuestion: How do I edit a blog entry once it is made (i.e. I made a typo...)
I am an admin, plus I checked the permissions to make sure that the other group I am in has access to all of the edit capabilities.
When viewing an article you should see a "gear icon" which, when you hover over it, disappears and shows you various options you have (edit, delete, lock, etc).

QuoteI chose "add a poll", and entered a poll with options. I click post... but can not find the poll anywhere.
(once I chose"Show polls in sidebar" they appeared. Perhaps this should be noted somewhere? However, I still can not seem to GET to the poll in order to vote in it.)
The creator of a poll is not allowed to vote in it.  Where would be a good place to put a note about having to turn the Polls window on?  Maybe put an italics notice at the bottom of the post form for the poll if the Polls window is disabled for that blog?

QuoteUsers allowed to post articles list (Question: shouldn't the user who started the blog be included on this list by default?)
The owner of a blog is always allowed to post.  Having them on the users allowed to post articles list would be rather redundant I think.

Yes I had recently redone quite a few txt strings to avoid using any smf txt strings and to maintain uniformity with txt variables names within zCommunity.  I guess I missed one :(

QuoteI'm running EZportal...   I forget... do you have block code available for that or an add-on mod to link someone's profile to their blog and/or blog posts (tied in with smf contributions (i.e. forum posts)?)
I do not have block code available for any of the portal systems for SMF... yet.  What I think I'll do is have the code available at Degrees of Zero in the documentation section once the code is available.

QuoteAnother note about EZPortal, I have a left column set to appear on "All Actions and Boards", but the zCommunity pages do not respect this. (I assume because of the separate templates?)
zCommunity does interesting stuff with the templates, and I haven't tested it completely with the various portal systems that are available for SMF.  The differences between SMF 1.1.x and SMF 2 make this especially difficult.

Quote
Suggestion:   IN smf2.0 at least, add a link in the forum admin > modifications section that links to the blog control panel.
I thought I figured that out, but I guess I didn't.  I'll have to keep messing with SMF 2.

Dunno about that one....

Enable the News block on the community page (go to the Community Page tab of your control panel) and then go to the actual Community Page and you'll see a link to Post News.

You mean there are gaps between each sub menu item?  That means that some necessary class(es) are missing from the css stylesheet(s).  What theme were you using?
'DOH!   yup...   it was a theme thing.  I am using a new test theme. It displays correctly when the smf theme is set to default and the zCommunity is set to default.

Yes...   I think italics is the polls window is disabled would be useful.

Ok...  that's what I figured, but it might not be clear. Again, maybe a smalltext statement stating the these poster permissions are in addition to the blog owner? I know users, and they get confused over the smallest things.

that's cool...   wasn't really concerned about it, since mods on top of mods always have some odd behaviors and it's not actually your responsibility to make your mod work with every other mod. Just something to look at (which is sounds like you are doing.)

No worries...   actually adding admin menu items in smf 2.0 is fairly simple. (just adding to an array)

Not sure what you mean.
Turns out to be more theme issues.
http://site.com/index.php?zc=bcp;u=2;blog=1.0
Although, in the blog control panel section of the individual blog, it does have a blank left column headed by a tabbed menu showing "Write Post" and "Go to Blog" and then an empty column beneath that.
Also, in the same screen, the main control menu (to the right) overlaps the first line of the options below it (on the starting screen, that is the set of radio buttons asking hidden or shown).

QuoteSuggestion: Use the term "Blog Entry", "Blog Post" or "Post" instead of "article" since article tends to mean something more along the lines of news rather than blog.
Dunno about that one....
Just a suggestion... it's easy enough to change it myself for my own preference. The thing is that I use the term articles for actual articles on the site, so blogs don't (In my opinion) count the same as articles.

Enable the News block on the community page (go to the Community Page tab of your control panel) and then go to the actual Community Page and you'll see a link to Post News.
[/quote]
most excellent!  I missed that the first time through. Using your explanation let me enable it and post.

This addition definitely should be looked at for inclusion with the various portals (FelPortal, ezPortal, TinyPortal) and possibly some external stuff like SSI functions (actually one may solve the other... creation of SSI-like functions to display most recent, etc. would allow it to be included as block in any of the portal systems or even on outside HTML pages)
(yes, I know you're still in alpha and here I come offering suggestions for major additions... LOL)
I think the main addition I would code in (and may end up doing so, if I get the time) is to add a link in a user's profile to their blog...  and possibly an icon link in the mini-profile used for posts (SMF's display.template.php).   I have not looked deep into the code or database yet...   but I suspect that a user's ID can be used to generate a query of which blogs belong to that user....   or even better, this information can be added into the $user_info and/or $context array(s) for potential use throughout the forum.

Quick question?
do all img tags have alt tags so blind users can use this blog?
also the gear img talked about above, how would a blind user get  it to open? is it a dropdown menu?
thanks Flip

I don't want to sound like a complete jerk, but I never thought that blind people would be using something like this.  I'm sure that all the images can have img tags, but wouldn't the images in the menus cause issues, or at least extend the problems with the site taking forever because of the numerous image tags (on some themes, not all, I'm sure)..?

As far as the gear icon goes, it's a CSS thing...so, you'd have to navigate your mouse over it to bring up any options from there.

If I may ask, how blind are we talking about here?  so blind that everything is read in an audio-type fashion, or just legally blind, where you can still see, but only from VERY close (using a projector/magnifying screen to see, etc..)?

Either way...it shouldn't be hard for Charles to add the stuff in, but...wow.  A completely different perspective.

ke4obt

Well, I'm totaly 100 percent blind and do use a screen reader and the default theme is quite easy to navagate, to date the only part of the forum that gives me any problems is the stats area at the bottom of the forum index page.
the layout is all wrong, but working on that.

You'd be very surprised just how many blind people are out here on the web these days. we even have closed sites (pay for use) for blind and visually impaired folks.

well back to work, got to figuar out the stats area, not looking good for what I want it to do.

Did you upload install_db_edits.php to your forum folder and then access it directly via a browser?  Nothing in zCommunity will be activated until at least blogMode is added to the _settings table of your forum (which is done by the install_db_edits.php file along with all the other necessary db edits).

I am testing this in 2.0b4.

I have problems with templates (also,I have the problems that someone posted here early): I can't run any template that is not the default in my forum.Even if I select "clean" template,I only get my default template.Any help?.
BTW,can every blog have his own template? can SMF templates be used in blogs, such as the default one,but without being by default?.

Thanks.
