hi

tinyportal or simple portal are beter? why?

I personal dislike to compare things. I think it's up what you want to have and need.
I think both portals are great, but for people like me, with no php-knowledge or those who don't
know cms-stuff, as me too, Simpleportal is the best solution. ;)

I tried to use tinyportal and mkportal, but I gave up to get them work. I saw simpleportal, downloaded it, installed it via package-manager and felt in love with it. :D

Hello, I just upgrade to RC1 from 118 and all went well...

But it you take a look at the first pic below before I log in to my site this is what it looks like.

And after I log in, in the 2nd pic the User Info Block I dont see the word "Posts" This is all I see : 1137

2 pics attatched.

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

Smoky "Rider" Blue

if that is a custom theme you must edit it with what mods you have so they will show up..

failure to do this will give you what you are seeing..

if you want to know what edits, read this: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402

I use SMF 1.1.8 and I have added the Calendar Block to my forum. For some reason my Calendar Block has stopped showing upcoming holidays and such. It showed St. Patrick's day awhile back. I have it set to show 7 days in advance and it is not showing April Fool's on there, even though it is on the calendar and displayed on the board index as a holiday.

I would like to let the developer know that when there are no events to display it says "Sorry! There are no calendar items avaible at the moment."   Available is spelled wrong...

Thanks Smoky, I do use a custom theme but I don't see any edits that require editing a theme. I didn't have to do any edits for the same theme in 1.1.8 ???

Tiribulus

She's saying that for any mod, including simple portal, if there are changes made to files inside the /themes/default folder and the theme your using has it's own version of those same files in the themes/your_theme folder, you'll need to edit those files manually with the same edits that the mod does to the ones for the default theme.

Ex:

SimplePortal makes changes to the index.template.php, Display.template.php, and the Who.English.php files for the default theme which is in the /themes/default directory (some in sub directories).

For themes other than default where you find those same files you will need to make those identical edits to those files yourself. On the page for the mod, in this instance SimplePortal, you see in the upper left the package parser. You click the button for the version of the mod you will be using and click submit. It will show you exactly what is being done to the DEFAULT theme by installing that mod. Any time you see an edit for any file inside any folder under themes/default, you check the folder for your theme and see if it uses it's own copies of any of those files and duplicate the edits to them that you saw in the package parser for the default theme.

WHEW! I hope all that made sense. Make sure you back up the files you're editing BEFORE doing your edits, especially if your inexperienced in so doing. If anything goes awry you can just copy back the original unedited file/s. It's not too difficult once you get a grip on how stuff works, but it doesn't take much to be out of place for all manner of havoc to be wreaked upon your forum so be careful and keep those back ups.

Thanks for the response,

I understand what she's saying I have added TONS of Mods to TONS of Themes but these are the only Theme Edits aside from addiing some pics and the language edits.

./Themes/default/Display.template.php
./Themes/default/css/dropmenu.css
./Themes/default/languages/Who.english.php

My theme does NOT have a language folder, it uses the default, according to the Parser my theme does NOT have any files to edit???

Smoky "Rider" Blue

so mrtrc, you are saying its based off the default?

is there an index.template.php file there? what theme is it?

more info you give the better the help you will get..

side note: hey Blue.. if you could make it to where the blocks can have option of name or no name would be good..

my blog in a block isnt looking to hot with the name twice..  :'(

Hi Smoke, sorry for the lack of info.

Yes there is an index.template.php file and I'm using the Extreme 6 Themes

SP 2.1.1 and SMF RC1

And here's my site Monsters Mansion

Thanks for the help

Smoky "Rider" Blue

you need to make the right theme edits so you wont have any errors in your log..

read the file that is in the sp mod package for your version install2.xml (or use the parser, located under the download button on the site here for sp) either way will work..

and follow the directions, of what to put where, and you can find that in the package_info.xml file

if you have issues with doing that, then drop me a pm if you want me to fix it.. also you might want to size your theme, in a 1024 screen size, your right hand blocks are overlapping, while fine on a 1660px screen.. you want to make your site as good looking for all members/guests with varying screens..

if you need further help with any mods, more than welcome to drop by my site..

hope this helps, its the same info spread thru this thread, but i know how confusing things can be when you are just starting out ;)

i wish you good luck!

The SimplePortal Team is now celebrating the long awaited release of SimplePortal 2.2! The build up to this release has been long and we would like to thank our many dedicated supporters for their patience and continued support during the development of this version. The SimplePortal Team is as excited as you are by this release, so we hope that you enjoy using it!

What's new?

The richest world of blocks
With 30 built-in blocks, SimplePortal now serves you the richest world of blocks. It includes 27 highly customizable predefined blocks, and 3 types of custom content based blocks (for BBC, HTML and PHP content). With this version, every single block has been re-coded so that it is more efficient and better meets your needs.

Your portal is where you want it!
Our new version of SimplePortal introduces two new portal modes; "Standalone" and "Integration". Turn your forum into a CMS with "Frontpage" mode, switch to the "Integration" mode to use blocks in forum, or use the revolutionary "Standalone" mode to run your portal in a different directory. Your portal is where you want it!

SimplePortal is the first portal modification for SMF with full-standalone support!

Full control over block styles
The new Advanced Style Options give you full control over the styles of each block in your portal. You can now select default classes, set custom styles, or choose not to display title and/or body at all!

Intelligent blocks
SimplePortal introduces a new term to the world of portals: Intelligent blocks. Intelligent blocks are capable of detecting relevant mods and displaying information from them. Currently, SimplePortal includes 5 intelligent blocks and supports 7 popular SMF mods: Users Online Today, SMF Gallery, SMF Media Gallery, SMF Arcade, E-Arcade, SMF Shop and zCommunity!

Custom Display Options
SimplePortal 2.2 also comes with Custom Display Options. This feature allows you to fully control the display options of a block, allowing you to choose exactly where your blocks are shown. With this new powerful system, you will be able to choose which blocks are shown for custom actions and dynamic or static URLs!

Database Tools
The new SimplePortal Database Tool is designed to fix any database issues related to SimplePortal in seconds! This will also allow you to upgrade your portal database in the future, instead of uninstalling and reinstalling it!

Right to Left Language Support
Version 2.2, now fully supports RTL (right to left language) with special CSS designed for this purpose. Although we don't have any Right to Left Language translations, if you are interested in translating SimplePortal into your language, contact Jade or LHVWB via PM.

Download SimplePortal 2.2 Now!
- from The official SMF Mod site.
- or from Our very own SimplePortal downloads page.

Upgrading from older versions
There has been a large development jump with many code and feature changes. Because of this, you will have to uninstall older versions of SimplePortal, if you have any installed. None of your SimplePortal data will be lost from SimplePortal 2.x versions, as the uninstall process will preserve your settings, blocks and articles.

Three easy steps to upgrade your portal!

  • Uninstall your old version of SimplePortal.
  • Download SimplePortal 2.2 from one of the download locations above.
  • Install SimplePortal 2.2, and you are ready to go!

What's in store for the future?
As of now, SimplePortal has a fairly developed block system. So, in further versions the focus will be on making SimplePortal more modular. This will include an advanced article system, custom pages, and possibly a shoutbox. Of course, your feedback will guide the direction of any future release.

Thanks for reading! We hope that you enjoy using SimplePortal as much as we continue to enjoy creating and supporting it!

thanks Blue.. now i can fix that front page of mine..  O:)
**Take the time to remember friendships and family.. Sometimes it's all we have, and missed very much**

Tiribulus

It gave me this:

Database Error
Unknown column 'sp_smfGallery' in 'where clause'
File: /srv/www/htdocs/Packages/temp/install1-1.php
Line: 566

In the smf interface when I installed the new version. No failures either way, uninstalling or installing the new version. Anybody with some insight would be highly regarded.
Thanks

[SiNaN]

We had to replace the install script inside the package due to a bug in block update query. This only affects SMF 1.1 version with SimplePortal installed before. If you didn't get this error while installing, you do not have to do anything.

Database Error
Unknown column 'sp_smfGallery' in 'where clause'

If you get this error, download the package again and use it.

If I'm understanding you correctly it did give me the error while installing. I uploaded it, no failures, clicked install and that was the next thing I saw in the install dialog. The home page was then the forum index instead of SP.
Anyway,
I deleted it and went to install 2.1.1 for now and then it gave me this:

Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this URL  http://gregnmary.gotdns.com:8080/index.php?action=packages;sa=install2;package=SimplePortal2.1.1.zip
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
Database Error: Column count doesn't match value count at row 1
File: /srv/www/htdocs/Packages/temp/install1-1.php
Line: 171

Had to restore from last nights backup and all seems to be well at the moment. Wait a second, are you going to tell me that I needed to go into the CP and enable it again? :-[
