SMF text editor gets flaky when near full?

I had a couple fair sized posts, but not huge, do strange stuff with the scroll bar.  Once two lines are below the scroll bar, it is not possible to raise them back into view using the scroll bar which just sirs there rapidly bouncing up and down, but never showing lower lines of text.

The scroll bar looks like it has plenty of room left, and did not act this way when first installed. McAfee saws no viruses (for what that's worth, and I do sometimes spend considerable time working on one doc in the editor. Please help.

Is composing in Word then copy/paste to the SMF text editor the only answer? :(

thx,    Lee

Are you using IE8?
There seems to be an issue with it bouncing up to half way.

I changed to IE 8 about a week ago, same time problem started.

I like IE 8, anything to fix SMF?

Tyrsson

Are you running IE in compatibility mode? If not then try doing so and see if the problem persist.
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

Our bug report is here
http://dev.simplemachines.org/mantis/view.php?id=3354

As of yet we do not have a fix (and it is unknown whether its an smf bug, or an IE8 one)
[There are at least two bugs I've gone to report so far that I've discovered are bugs in IE8 final]

Actually, I've found that the same happens, on one other SMF forum that I know, even using Opera and Firefox, so it may not be IE-specific.

For info, the forum's here:

Google Chrome works fine... presents a larger text editor box, maybe 500 words or more with no scroll bar.  Nothing jumps. Every thing Acts as expected.

Gonna try to fill text edit box... Google Chrome will be pretty nice once I figure how to get rid of stupid site list bar at top of page; had same prob with IE8.

IE 8 seems faster than Google Chrome and IE7 when it comes to finding/loading pages at first hit, but only 1-2 seconds, and only 3-4 sites, a small sample.

I do have problems writing/editing in Comcast email. I gotta look t my hands when typing, and sometimes find my Comcast cursor has jumped to another paragraph, sometimes requiring a tedious re-edit. Anyone ever see this? Not sure if associate with IE8.

Oh, at bottom of the text box, and now see a very normal text box with normal , non-shaking vertical slider  :)

gonna paste last few paragraphs as a "slider shake test" below:

No shaky sliders; everything acting as advertised!   Google Chrome rules!! O:)

I won't use it, coz of the spyware.

I'll stick with DA BOSS!  :)

Ended up removing google chrome, and going back to ie7 from ie8...now that's a rather hidden and interesting process in Vista, but Google "remove vista ie8" shows ya what to do

everything works fine again O:)

* Kat was going to mention Opera, but decided to have a bit of restraint.

* Kat most certainly wouldn't post a link to it, coz that would be sooooo crass!

I'm surprised to see that the bug stands as minor:
-At the moment IE8 has a market share of 4% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_8 [nofollow]), so 4% of the users on the forum will run into problems due to this problem
-It affects older versions of SMF as well
Shouldn't this bug get higher priority?

You seriously got your stats mixed up. :P

4% of everyone using any browser, and 4% of SMF users are completely different numbers - I'm sure :D

How you can help SMF

karlbenson

marcbo,
- minor is the default for new bugs.
- unfortunately at the moment it appears to be an IE8 bug, and unlikely that we can do anything about it.
(possibly not even a temp fix until Microsoft fixes it).

Which is still a problem too.  :(
