This modification gives you the ability to make a
password be required to register on your board.

You can toggle this requirment on and off via the admin
center.  You also set the password in the admin center.

Additional help, with screenshots, is available via all
the files which start with help in this compressed file.

Works with SMF 1.0.1, 1.0.2
If installed on 1.0.1 and upgrading to 1.0.2, I advise
uninstalling this mod first, then upgrading, then
reinstalling.

This is a great mod.
It was exactly what I was looking for exactly when I was looking for it.
I wanted a way to truly make my forum private without having to activate each new member and making them wait until I do so.

I plan to modify the mod to allow case insensitive invitation code.

Additionally, I am planing to add a send invitation (Recommend This Site) mod that will include the invitation code.

In my case my users will invite future members.  Since we are all friends, the forum should remain fairly private.
This way, old friends whom I've lost contact with may still find their way to my forum.

Thanks for the great mod. 8)

Can I see a working demo of this and/or screenshot?!

Also bettleman - how goes your mod's to this?

TXSherry

QuoteCan I see a working demo of this and/or screenshot?!

Well... I have it installed on two boards but due to the nature of it all you'll see is the registration screen.  As for screenshots, download and unzip.  I put an html helpfile in the zip.

Sorry but I wouldn't know what the peculiarities of your themes are.   however, you can view the xml file and manually make the changes yourself (based on what you have installed.)

Thanks TXSherry

I thought it was like one of those things that put up a random mix of letters that you have to enter into the box as verification.

Is there anything like that?

Nitro

hey TXSherry, i wanted to say this little mod is very cool. can i suggest something?
how about letting every moderator to select their own passwords? or what if we let the members to select their own pwds? what if there are hidden boards and the moderator of that hidden board wants to invite a non-member but wants to send his own password?
do you think this can be possible? in other words, make that password global and also by members or groups, or something. this way, everyone can select either the board password (then they have to ask us for the pwd) or, they can select 'create your own pwd'

you see, someone else told me about your mod and i have installed and it works great! but what if you went on vacation or in a honey moon or whatever! and lots of hundreds of members need that password? ooh! that can be a little bit overwhelming!

just a thought.

Great job!
MPF Rocks!!!

i have installed the mode but im not really sure what its used for i thought it was so that some of the bored was only access through a password like vip section or some thing but i so far aint been able to get it to do this or is it to give the whole bored a passwrd???

1- there is no gaurantee this will work on anything higher than 1.0.2 (and you should not be running anything lower than 1.0.5)

2- This mod set it so that when a NEW user joins your forum, they can enter a password and be approved on the forum(Rather than waiting for the admin to approve each individual)

This is *NOT* a mod that established a password for specific boards within the forum.

Ok then, here is a better question

Is it EVER going to be available for 1.1RC2 or RC1 or any version above 1.0.5???

Because currently it isn't and quite frankly.. the option to password protect your forum as a whole should be a DEFAULT option with SMF. As well as the mod that allows you to password protect the individual boards, should be a default option with SMF. These are security options that should be Automatically available with the core SMF and part of the Configuration.

Is this available for version 1.1 RC2?

Mystique

Boosting to get a response. This should be answered. Will this mod ever become a permanent part of the SMF core (as it truely should) or will it ever be available for the newer versions at least??
