Width is set in style.css here:

#logo, #logo a {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
display: block;
width: 500px;
height: 100px;
}

Like I said though it wont work on all screens unless you set the forum to a fixed width. Otherwise you will still get gaps on a wide screen and on a screen narrower than your banner you will get a scroll bar.

yeah, ive changed that width before to 800 and the height to 180, as thats the width and height of my banner.  but no matter how much i try, i cant get the banner to expand to the width of the forum.  i set it to 85% i think, the forum itself?  so if u go to that website again, ull probably notice the banner is 'docked' on the right hand side of the header, with a bunch of grey to the left.  but whats weird is the entire header now acts like a link, where as before it didnt.  to explain, the width was set to 800.  the banner is 800 wide.  the entire banner acted like a link to the forum homepage.  now, the width was then changed to 1280.  the banner remains 800 wide.  the entire banner AND the grey area acts like a link to the forum homepage, however, the grey box still remains.  it seems like there is an absolute size that the banner can not go over.  whats also weird is that when i go to modify theme and go to style.css and change the width, 800 and 1280 both show the entire header being taken up with NO grey area.  but once i set either width, the grey box remains...  there must be a way to get that banner to work as the sytle.css preview pane shows it to work.

edit 1: ive just installed another copy of the theme, only this time w a banner that is 1280 width, just to see what would happen.  the banner, as u may see when u check, it blown way out of proportion, BUT, the grey box remains... is that thing an image set to overlay everything behind it?  or is the banner area set to a definite, absolute width and then hides the rest?

edit 2: i believe ive figured it out.  a banner of size 800 with ur forum template is only big enough to take up the whole header area if the forum itself is set to 60%.  1280 if set to 99%.  1024 should be a good middle ground, at around 85%.  i think thats all i can do for this.
u said i can set the forum to a fixed width.  how do i do that?  i want to be sure all people who go to this forum see the exact same proportions as i do (meaning the forum is only as wide as my banner).

Antechinus

The forum width is set in the wrapper class in style.css. It's the second one above the logo class. Set the width in px instead of percent. So if you want the forum to stay 800px wide it would be width: 800px;

scorpion1082

ah, sweet.  that should do it then.  thanks man!  glad we could help each other.

scorpion1082

oook... so one issue's come up.  news doesnt show with the theme?  or does it and ive removed it accidentally or something?  i havent removed any code.  all ive done is put new icons in and change around some banner stuff, sizes, etc.

Antechinus

Use the news fader. That's what it's for. ;)

scorpion1082

actually, and im not sure its something about your theme, but i dont seem to be able to see the email button under my avatar?  poooooo... i think its the last thing im hoping to fix!

Antechinus

Yeah I removed that and a whole lot of other stuff that I don't think needs to be cluttering up Display.template.php. I hate cluttered looks. Everything is still available on the main profile page and both avatars and usernames are linked straight to profile.

ah, sweet.  at least i know its not a bug :)

edit 1: oh, and how do i stay logged in forever?  there was a way with 1.1.10 i believe, but the login with 2.0 or with ur theme doesnt show a stay logged in forever choice on the pages without clicking the login button (as apposed to seeing it outright when going to the website).  is that right?

Antechinus

scorpion1082

kk.  so its a 2.0 thing or a mm thing?

:'(
i liked that though... although i guess itd be good to force people to sign in after a certain period of time, but still
:'(

edit 1:
'post_poll' => array('test' => 'can_post_poll', 'text' => 'new_poll', 'image' => 'new_poll.gif', 'lang' => true, 'url' => $scripturl . '?action=post;board=' . $context['current_board'] . '.0;poll'),

where is this code in ur messageindex.template.php?  its not there, and im trying to install a mod called SMFbuyPRO.  pro isnt on this board, but it installs on the core, just not mm.  it cant seem to find it and i need to add a code to it after this.  it does find some of the code, only in 3 seperate locations, not just the one, so i wudnt know which to place the mods code after.

echo ' <tr>  <td class="windowbg2 icon1">  <img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/topic/', $topic['class'], '.gif" alt="" />  </td>  <td class="windowbg2 icon2">  <img src="', $topic['first_post']['icon_url'], '" alt="" />  </td>

it also cant find this above code (the format is messed up cause the server seems to have a screwy php editor when using the [select] code box to manually replace the codes).  this code is supposed to be replaced with the code from the mod, but it doesnt seem to exist in this way.

Antechinus

Ask the mod author. I am not going to get into supporting every possible mod for SMF as there are far too many. If you need help installing mods on custom themes use the support thread for that mod.

scorpion1082

yea, figured i might need to ask u cause the codes themselves seem to be missing from ur theme.  i can manually install the mod to fix the errors, but just need to find where those codes are in ur mod.  i think u may have changed them to something else?  so thats why im asking you.  its a matter of finding where the codes i posted are in ur mod, or where they were before changing/removing them.  if i ask him about it, he'll just say manually install them into the theme.  if u cant find the code in the theme, ask the theme author.  just trying to skip to step 3 and ask ya straight out ;)
