Avoiding Upload and Overwrite Problems

I was going to wait for the finished version of RC2 and then changed my mind and almost decided to upload the Public version, then, changed my mind again and have been researching the problems that some are having. That brings up a few questions about how to avoid the problems that some are having.

I have read the link on how to upload but am not sure why some are having files not being uploaded by individual FTP programs. I am unfamiliar with this problem. I use FileZilla but is there a better FTP for SMF uploads or am I OK with FZ? So far, I have had no problem with FZ in upgrades from 1.1.9-1.1.10. I have no Mods or any other exotic stuff. Just the 1.1.10 standard package.

Are the problems some are having being caused by operator errors or are their inherent bugs that can be foreseen and dealt with before uploading and overwriting? Just being cautious before I somehow screw over my forum members.

That is usually a host problem, or the individual's configuration of their FTP program. There is nothing wrong with FileZilla itself. I prefer CuteFTP pro, but everyone has their own preference. It is all what you are used to.

Filezilla is fine, I use it for my FTP work to on everything I do. If you want, make another install of SMF 2.0 RC2 and test it out before upgrading your live site. Make sure it works with your server.

And when you do go to update your live site, remember these words, back up back up back up. Especially your database.

Thanks so much for the info and positive help. I have backed up the program but will read the links provided. I have never had to reinstall from a backup, no probs.with SMF. I will read the links before I ask any further questions.
