Need to make it so only thread starter and mods can view/post in thread.

I don't know if it's possible with built-in functionality, I've looked around but can't find anything. Perhaps there's a plugin to do this?

Specifically what I'm trying to do is set a board on my forum so that:

-topic starter can view/post in topic
-moderators/admins can view/post in topic
-all others can NOT view existing topics (other than their own), but can create a new topic

The idea is to have an area where banned players (this is for a gaming community) can post to appeal their ban, but I'd like to prevent other forum members from interfering, so the discussion is between the appealer and admins only.

I visited that Mod page and found that the Mod is very old, only work for SMF 1.1.3.

I am also looking for such a special Mod for following situation:


I want to make a website for a medical hospital, then build a forum there so that patients can ask questions to theri own/trusted doctors.

My design is: use Category for the department, such as Surgery or Internal Medicine; use the Forum for each doctor, and the doctor himself will be the Moderator of his own forum. Patients will be members to the whole board and can post in any forum, since he may want to ask different questions to different doctors.

You know, medical/health related issues is the most private information that the patients will only want to share with the doctor. He does not want other people read the post.

So I think, a new option/rule in the forum, which I want to build with SMF2, will solve this problem:

We limit the permissions to:

1. Only the topic starter(patient) and the Mod (the doctor) can reply and read the post content.
2. Guests can only read topic title.
3. Other registered members can NOT read other members' post content, but the title.
4. Each Mod (the doctor) can only reply the topics in his own forum. But he can read the post title in other forums (as a common member).
5. At the same time, each user's profile is closed to guests and other common members. The Mod (the doctor) can see the profile of a member ONLY after the user had posted in his forum. Then the doctor will know how to contact the patient by phone. Of course, the patient has the right to NOT provide his phone number in his profile.

I think in this way, we can keep the privacy only to the patient himself and his own doctor. And also can show post titles to other members and guests to tell them what kind of questions had been asked and answered.

How can I do this? This View Topic Permission Mods looks nice but is not for SMF2. Hope someone will improve it to suit my needs.
