SMF 2.0 RC2

I'm on Linux Mint Gloria

Opera

Version
10.00

Build
4585

Platform
Linux

System
i686, 2.6.28-11-generic

Qt library
3.3.8b

Java
Java Runtime Environment installed

Browser identification

Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; Linux Mint; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00

What happens is that when I try to log in the first two attempts I get
  • You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings.

On the third attempt I log in successfully.

Norv

Eventually, please make sure you clear cookies in Opera, and see if next login succeeds.

Are there other errors in the forum error log?
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

The only error I get in the error logs is "Password incorrect - myusername"

I tried it out in XP using Opera 10.10 under VirtualBox and have no problems. I've also deleted the cookies and still the same results.

One more thing.

If I log in and get the "You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings." error and click the back button it'll take me another two tires before it logs me in but if I hit the login button on the top nav bar it just keep refusing to log me in.

I'll try to reinstall opera and see how it goes.

future assassin

Ok well a "complete uninstall" and then had to reinstall the full package again before it worked. If I just reinstalled the package it sill gave me the login error.

Thanks.

Norv

You mean, a complete uninstall of Opera?
It sounds like some of your Opera settings may have been corrupted, so "complete uninstall", that is, removing the settings too, and reinstall the package with default settings seems to work (if I understand correctly).

Yes in Synaptic I had to choose "Mark For Complete Removal" then click apply and then install the package again. if I just selected "Mark for Reinstall" or Mark For Removal" and reinstalled I still got the same login problem. So seems something was corrupted on my side either with opera or something other in Mint.

Norv

It sounds like Opera's settings were corrupted.

In any case, good to hear it works now. Please, feel free to mark this topic as solved using the green button on the bottom of the page, in case you consider it solved.

Ok well its back to the same and also now I tried Opera in XP and having the same issue. Seems once cookies are removed or in Mints case Opera removed and reinstalled I can log in the first time but once I close the browser window or log out and close the browser window I have to go through the three logins to finally log in.

Windows version of opera.

Version
10.10

Build

Platform
Win32

System
Windows XP

Java
Java not installed

XHTML+Voice
Plug-in not loaded

Is SMF 2.0 RC2 a fresh installation, or was it upgraded?

Do you have mods installed?

Please check your Admin > Forum error log, and post here the errors you find.

I have smf media gallery installed but thats its and its a fresh install.

All the error log reads is

"Password incorrect - myusername"

Norv

So it rejects your password a few times in a row?

Does it happen in other browsers, like Firefox?

I am seeing the same problem as this - many users reporting that login is failing for them. I have also experienced the problem myself, but only in Firefox. I notice that Firefox did an update this week - I am on version 3.5.6, don't know if that might be the problem.

Norv

rmdat2003: please post your error log, if there is something.

Also, what version of SMF are you using?
Also, do you or users save passwords in Firefox? Might be worth trying to delete the saved password, delete all cookies/cache, then try again.

I am using 2.0 RC2.

Passwords are not saved, and login forever is not selected. Nothing appears in the error log. What seems to have is that I login, and just get redirected back to the login page. The same problem occurs if I try to logout. It's as if the action is being ignored.

I never see this problem in IE, and I also tried to add the IETab option into Firefox, and when I use that for the site I also do not experience any problem. I know that there was a Firefox updates last week, and the problems seems to have occurred since then, so maybe there is a change made that is causing this ?

Yes it rejects the password twice and on the third time it accepts it IF I used the back button below the login screen/error. If i use the login button on the navigation menu is never logs me in and just repeats the failed login error.

It does not happen in other browser IE and Firefox work ok.

greyknight17

future assassin, is this issue resolved now? If not, PM me with the link to your site and a temporary login account so I can test this out.

I used the latest Opera version just to see if I can produce this error on my side but don't see any problems logging in. Do you have the password manager enabled? If so, try removing the password for your forum in Opera and login manually again to see if it helps.
