I recently upgraded to 1.1.11. Since then when visitors try to register they get an error:

An Error Has Occurred!
An avatar is required! Please select one.

There's no area to select an avatar at that stage of registration. It's just creating a username & password, agreeing to terms & entering security code.

Also when I tried logging into this form it just said error - check your cookie settings. But it didn't offer instructions on what to set the cookies to, & I had to set them to allow ALL cookies for it wo work. Just an FYI.

I can't answer your second question for now, but for your first one, just make sure you have not installed any mod which makes avatar a requirement for registration, i.e. avatar on registration etc.

If so, just uninstall the mod and the problem will be vanished.  :)

I haven't installed any mods - just upgraded my forum version to 1.1.11.

Did you have any mods previously installed?  Do you have any errors in the log when someone tries to register and they see the error you posted?

No mods previously installed. I haven't looked at the error log but will. WIll it give info on what the problem is?

JimM

Yes, usually when there is a problem, that is the first thing we ask.  It normally gives us a good idea of where to start looking for the problem.

There's a whole bunch of this error in my error log:

[09-Dec-2009 19:19:21] PHP Warning:  PHP Startup: mm_create(0, /session_mm_cgi541) failed, err mm:core: failed to open semaphore file (Permission denied) in Unknown on line 0

JimM

That looks like your server log.  Can you take a look at your forum error log in your AdminCP?  That would be the error log I would want to see first.

Here are the errors from that log:

2: dir(/home/user/public_html/forum/Themes/bds_style) [<a href='function.dir'>function.dir</a>]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory
File: /home/dreams9/public_html/brenniesdreamscape/forum/Sources/Admin.php
Line: 734

Unable to load the 'main_above' template.

Attach your /Sources/Admin.php file to your next post.  Is this the only error in the file?  Is this the error you see when someone tries to register?

The only other error was wrong password. The error seen when someone tries to register is

An Error Has Occurred!
An avatar is required! Please select one.

/Sources/admin.php is attached.

JimM

That file is clean.  No difference from the one from the install package.  Do you still have this issue if you change to the default theme?

I just changed the theme to the default & tested it - same error. However I noticed I am able to register a new member while logged in as the admin.

JimM

Can you pinpoint a time that this started occurring?  Installation of a mod, or theme?  If not you may be better off refreshing all your forum files with clean ones from the large upgrade package and then reinstalling all your mods.  Without knowing where to start, it makes it quite difficult to troubleshoot.

It started right after I upgraded my forum version to 1.1.11

JimM

You might want to try refreshing your /Sources/ManageAttachments.php file with one from the large upgrade package.  If you are not comfortable doing that, attach your file here and I will compare it with a fresh file to see if there is an issue with it.

I looked through the upgrade files and there were no upgrades that I can see that would have caused this.  Were any other edits made to the files around the same time?

I don't know how to do that, so I've attached it. There were no other edits made at the time - just hte upgrade to 1.1.11.

JimM

That file is also identical to the file from a fresh 1.1.11 install.  Are there any other errors in the forum error log when someone tries to register?

I just tried registering again & checked my error log & see this:

http://forum/index.php?action=regcenter
8: Undefined index: avatar
File: /home/xxxxxx/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Members.php
Line: 748

I opened that file & on line 748 is this:

'avatar' => "'$regOptions[avatar]'",

I don't know what it means though.

EDIT: I tried removing the $regOptions[avatar] & publishing, tried registering again & still get the same error.

Attach your /Sources/Subs-Members.php to your next post.
