i get this error, repeated many, many times, and can't get passed it...

What converter package are you using? What version of vbulletin and what version of SMF are you converting to/from?

Please make sure you restart the converting fully, by typing convert.php URL in the address bar, with no parameter.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
