Hello Folks,

I am basically new to smf, regardless I am very impressed with it.

As webmaster I am always trying to improve my web site and bring it up to standards... Not only w3c but within our governments standards... Usability.gov [nofollow] 17:4  states - A search option should be provided on all pages where it may be useful - users should not have to return to the homepage to conduct a search. Search engines can be helpful on content-rich Web sites, but do not add value on other types of sites.

Ya there are lots of search programs out there like google custom search.... Seeing in smf we already have a search engine why not expand it so it will do the entire website smf is hosted on?  If you implemented this then it would be a block copy and paste were you would want it in your code, just like googles custom search or yahoo's or bings... :)  personally I would just as soon display smf logo as googles. :)

just food for thought

SMF provides a search for its own pages, and is contextual, though it can be customised using the Search Focus Dropdown (which is mostly what we have here)

However, expanding it to cover non SMF pages is a HUGE amount of work to implement, though it may be achievable using a portal, I don't know. Really it depends on your site - without knowing more about that, I can't really help.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.
