recently i have been getting tons of email from member about that i have banned them.the only problem is that i havent banned those members at all, but i do ban a few spam bots / day. Is it a bug in SMF that somehow accidentally bans another member? (when i check the users profile i cannot find anything that indicates that they have been banned)

Are there any moderators or admin in your forum?

There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again."

Maybe you banned the IP address they use as well as the spam bot?

klink

Did you ever figure this out?  It is happening to me too!

Even though you claim none of them have ban or delete permissions, I would still go into the permissions section and double check.

Oh, well it is possible that SMF is having an error. Two occasions of the same thing have been reported today.

I posted a little more about our issue.  It appears to be "fixed" for now, so I thought you might be interested.

Is this issue resolved now? If not, can you check the ban triggers for the last handful of members you banned and see what you have them set as? If banning by IP address, make sure you are not banning a certain IP range (range of IP addresses).

I've started having this same issue lately. several regular members and a couple of occasional members reported that they are banned. I haven't banned anyone for about 2 months, and all of a sudden some folks that were definitely NOT banned are banned. their IP addresses & host names don't match with any of the bans either. I am also the only admin/moderator. I'm running 1.1.12 right now. in all of these cases I can look at their profiles and it does not indicate that they are banned!

any help would be appreciated...

I had the people who were having issues delete the site & forum cookies. in all but one case that resolved the issue. while this worked, I'd sure like to know why this started happening all of a sudden!

Not to be rude climber, but did you not read Illori's post? If you want support, you're going to have to create your own topic.

what's the matter in requesting support from within an existing relevant topic?

Illori

you cant mark it solved or unsolved and there is no way for the support staff to control the new issue in marking it solved or unsolved.
