Do you mean like when someone puts the wrong thing in the field? I've had this happen a couple times on my site even after I told them EXACTLY what to do... it's frustrating... I'm actually going in and correcting any that are done wrong... thankfully I've only had about 10 actually use the feature so far... about 6 of them did it wrong... LOL

Ideas are very welcome, ....if you have a different way, please let me know and i can do the changes.   Change is good ;)

would there be a way for the field to disallow certain characters such as:

/
:
.

I think if it disallowed these characters, they would realize their not supposed to enter a link, but just their user ID.

Eclipse16V

I meant if the field am empty. Thus if a user does not make with this field data is it is not also indicated.

You could rewrite the description so its straight forward.

Open:
/Themes/default/languages/Profile.english.php

Find:
$txt['your_cardomain_profile'] = 'Your CarDomain account username (ex: http://www.cardomain.com/id/___$USERNAME___)';

Replace with:
$txt['your_cardomain_profile'] = 'Type your CarDomain account username';

If its not populated when modifying the profile, nothing shows at all.   Just like:
ICQ
AIM
MSN
YIM

Maserati
