I can't install any modifications to my forum.

I just tried to install something simple (in this case favicon.icon support).
I get this message each time!
QuoteError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

One point is that the install.php didn't self delete when i selected that option so i don't know what files would have been deleted by it.
Here's the files in my root forum directory.
Please tell me which files shouldn't be there?

    attachments,
    avatars,
    cache,
    Packages,
    Smileys,
    Sources,
    Themes,
    agreement.txt,
    index.php,
    install_2-0_mysql.sql,
    install_2-0_postgresql.sql,
    install_2-0_sqlite.sql,
    license.txt,
    news_readme.html,
    readme.html,
    Settings.php,

I'm not using RC3, so I can't check, but currently the Mod says that it is only installable on the following: 1.1.8, 1.1.10, 1.1.11, 2.0 RC1, 2.0 RC1.2, 2.0 RC2

The package may need to be modified in order to work on RC3 by the mod author.  Or, you could parse the package where you downloaded the mod and try manually editing and loading any images or files to the appropriate directory.

Well i just tried "Quick Reply" which is compatible with RC3 ( here ) and got a bigger list!

For something like Youtube BBC, you could try to install by EMULATING a previous version.  Most mods you won't be able to do like that though in RC versions because there are more changes between the RCs.  But that mod doesn't alter much.

You could try doing this if you feel comfortable...

You already have the package on your forum unless you deleted it.

Go into Admin > Browse Packages

At the bottom of the page, you will see ADVANCED.  Click on ADVANCED and you will see a text box that should have SMF 2.0 RC3 in it.  Change it to SMF 2.0 RC2 and click APPLY.

Now, find it in the list of mods and click on the INSTALL button.  More than likely it will say that it is ok now.

Once you are done installing, go back to ADVANCED and change it back to SMF 2.0 RC3 and click APPLY again.

I do NOT recommend doing this for most mods that alter a LOT of files though.

Did you go through the entire process when you installed your forum?  Not sure why you are getting all these errors unless not all the files were uploaded.

It took me a while to figure out want it wanted for the database and host ext.. but yes it fully installed.
Only thing is that when i clicked remove install.php at the end it didn't do anything.

As i have no members and i installed the forum yesterday should i just delete and reinstall?

;D

C4G-TK

Before you do that, I would see if someone else replies to you here.  Did any other mods install after you deleted the install files above?

Someone may suggest having you run Repair_Settings.php to see if all of your directories are correct.  I will be back around here in about 3 hours after I run an errand, but hopefully someone will reply here that can tell you more specifically.

I don't have Repair_Settings.php?

But thanks and i'll wait to see if someone else posts

Repair_Settings is found here...

http://download.simplemachines.org/?tools

Upload it to your site.

Then, point your browser to that file by going to this....

Quotehttp:dhost.info/hackerpro/forum/repair_settings.php

Read the page and you can make sure all the directories are looking to the correct locations.
