Hello, I have a forum that is modified and would like to manually upgrade my way up to SMF1.1.11. However there doesnt appear to be any instructions? What can I do? Replacing my files is not an option because of all the mods and modifications I have made.

For as far as I know, upgrading from 1.1 RC2 to 1.1.1 can only be done manually. So, I would suggest just downloading the large upgrade package for 1.1.11 and perform a manual upgrade.

Perhaps I wasn't clear, I can't go about replacing the files with the large upgrade because I have tons of mods installed and custom template work done. I need the manual edits (file by file) to get to SMF1.1 RC2 to SMF1.1.1 final. So than I can use the package manager to update the versions.

I've never looked into SMF 1.1 RC2, however, I would assume that the changes are so vast that you will need to redo practically everything, or almost all of the functionality of your mods.

I'm sorry, that would be nearly impossible. Not only are the sourcefiles changed, the themefiles are as well. Also, the changes of your mods working with the newer sourcecode are very little.

The only way I can think of is comparing each of your files with the newer version with ConText. But it will still break some of your mods.

Under Downloads > Archived Releases you should be able to grab a copy of vanilla (unmodified) SMF 1.1 RC2. You could compare it file-by-file with SMF 1.1.11 to see which differences are due to your mods/edits and which are due to changes in SMF over the years. Then, after careful study of what your changes+mods are doing, you can apply them (in some form) to 1.1.11. A lot of work, I'm afraid.  Or, you could find the differences between 1.1 RC2 and 1.1.11 as the total "upgrades" between those versions, and manually apply them to your forum. Still a lot of work, but depending on just how many changes you've made, it might be less than the first course of action. In either case, the old mods will probably just come over indistinguishable from your custom edits (i.e., you can't upgrade to more modern versions of the mods). If all this is too overwhelming, I think you can still get the version-by-version upgrades from the archive, and manually apply each one until you get to 1.1.11.

Have you considered "starting from scratch" with 1.1.11, applying all the mods that seem to replicate your old mods + some of your custom function, and custom writing the rest in a "gray box" situation, where you are re-creating your changes from scratch, but have the old code to draw on for inspiration? Hopefully in any case, you'll be able to hammer the database into some sort of compatibility -- at least make your database a superset of the vanilla one, and (re)write your custom code to use the extra fields.

It looks like you have a painful amount of work ahead of you, even if you can start with a copy of vanilla SMF 1.1 RC2 to compare against, or can manually apply all the upgrades. That'll learn ya to let your system get so far out of date! ;)
