Make the links a little farther apart! My finger hits link below one I want!

You can usually zoom in a little further so the links are a little bigger.

I see no problem when using my iPhone, but then again my fingers are small ;)

I have fat fingers, but I have no problem hitting the correct link on my LG Dare...

I do wish that a WAP device was automatically detected :(

well, that is difficult because they are continually adding to the list of devices...   and many times, with the devices these days, the users actually WANTS the full version.

That's what things like TapaTalk and other apps were developed for ;)

Yeah I know ;) While I am no expert in php, I wouldn't think it would be that hard to make it autodetect?

I'm adding tapatalk anyway :p

Maybe detect phones devices would be useful... not as a core feature but yes as a mod...

SMF does autodetect, actually. It does this by looking at the http_accept header the browser sends.

If the browser says it accepts "application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml" then SMF shows the WAP2 version.
If the browser says it accepts "text/vnd.wap.wml" then
if the user agent contains either "DoCoMo/" or "portalmmm/" then SMF shows the iMode version
else SMF shows the WAP version.

Most smartphone browsers do not indicate the acceptance of these documents because their developers want the full page versions. This includes PocketIE (Ugh!), Opera Mobile/Mini, mobile WebKit browsers (Mobile Safari, Android browser), and such.

I have no problem browsing through WAP using iPhone.

Keep in mind too that WAP is not using true XHTML and CSS. It uses much more minimal versions of each. For example, you can't set line-height (that's up to the user agent). All the CSS properties that you can define for WAP 2.0 pages are found in CSS Mobile Profile 2.0.

When I go to my SMF forum on my phone, the env2 from verizon, it doesn't go to the WAP version, but instead goes to the main site, but edited to "fit my phone" by the VZW optimization thing.

Hmmm. Sounds like perhaps it isn't supplying the correct headers to get it detected as WAP-capable.

While I find it neat that I can access this site from my phone, I also find it not as cool/fun/functional when using my computer which is how the internet started (unless I missed a chapter in history).
