Hey guys I am new here So I was wondering if I should be worried about my error log displaying this, previously I got a 500 Internal error so i had to completely reinstall my website but I was wondering if that will happen again on the new installation (that gave this exact same error)

[client #$&*#($#($#] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/404.shtml
[error] [client #$&*(#$&#] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/favicon.ico
[error] [client #$&*(#$#] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/404.shtml
[error] [client #$&*(#$#$] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/favicon.ico
[error] [client #$*&(#$&(#$] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/404.shtml
[error] [client #*$&*(#&$(*#$] File does not exist: /home/^/public_html/favicon.ico

Any help would be awesome and if Its nothing then I can not worry about it.

I took out any parts with IP address and the Forum Name.

Illori

I would not worry about those exact errors as those will not effect how your forum works. by the way welcome to smf.

All that's saying is that you don't have a favicon, nor a 404 page set up.

Neither are "Mission Critical", by any means.:)

Welcome to SMF :)

If SMF's own error log (yes it maintains it's own log!) doesn't show any errors, your forum is fine :)

Read my sig > FAQs > "Missing Support Files". You might as well read "500 (Internal Server) Errors" too.

Bump

Its doing it again for some reason anyone know why same errors, its random.

Should i contact the hosting company and ask if its something they have configured.

TechTitan

Does your forum has users already? Is it on shared hosting? Check the memory usage (in cPanel -> Resource Usage). If its reached maximum many times then you need to upgrade your hosting. If you hit memory limit you will sometimes sees the internal server error or in some pictures your forum may not fully rendered.

As what K@ said, when the server can't serve the correct error files (maybe due to above) it showed up in server error log, its neither critical nor crucial..  ;)

I just spoke to my hosting company they said my index.php file is corrupt and thats the only one that cant be accessed, i have gone through all the lines seems like nothing is wrong.

I even tried using a fresh new index.php file from the install folder and that didnt change anything, I can acess all the other parts of the forum folder and everything else will load but the index one.

TechTitan

can you try a complete fresh installation using different folder i.e myforum for testing purposes..

if you have cpanel (or ssh), upload the zip files via ftp and use the cpanel file manager to extract it..
