Won't let me download any mods

I'm trying to download the smileys mod and it keeps saying temporarily unavailable. Do you know how long it will be down, or should I just check back later?

I gave up and closed the window, it kept telling me the server was too busy.

sounds like the server was having issues at that time, so trying at another time should work.
