Tutorials? Central listing? And can I help by writing some?

I am a newb to SMF but love what the 2.0.1 version has allowed me to do. The learning curve is a bit steep as the details I have garnered are a bit scattered and somewhat incomplete as far as a newcomer is concerned. I would love to contribute and have seen a need for tutorials to ease the learning curve for some.

Is there a central listing (topic) concerning tutorials? I haven't been able to find much but have more exploring to do on this site. I am capable of helping create and/or catalog a list of tutorials. Does anyone else see a need for some tutorials?

Yes I have. And I see that I wasn't explicit enough. What I have been looking for and am willing to help with are tutorials for development and moding on the SMF system. My background is in databases and system administration but am relatively new to MySQL and PHP. The concepts I have. The syntax is what I am learning. Working examples, I believe, are the best for learning.

And thank you for the reply. HAGD!

Hey, DanCarroll,

Yes, there is information, however, I think we can use better tutorials and documentation for development/customization of SMF. There are topics stickied in these forums that can help on particular subjects, but not all are quick to find, because some were not yet, afaik, gathered in a central place(s) and might need updates from time to time too. See for example,
SMF Coding Discussion board - Important Customization Information and linked topics,
Graphics and Templates - ReadMe: Graphics and Themes - Important).
The SMF function database: http://dev.simplemachines.org.
Particular customization, integration, development documentation in the wiki, like, for example, http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Integration_hooks.

Please, do tell if you think they are of help, or what is needed for them to be more helpful, and of course, please feel free to take part to writing them or others better! Thank you.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

For me it would be helpful if there was more info in the Developer area of the wiki. I have been through everything there that was listed and what I could find. It looks like there is a lot of information scattered around the site that could be useful to a SMF newbie but some may not be relevant if not pertinent to 2.x. Some, like me, may be new to SMF and even new to PHP/MySQL and some tutorials would be beneficial. And a comprehensive listing of some of the available resources could help.

Maybe a topic area like the Useful Applications topic on the SMF Coding Discussion but something along the lines of "How to Get Started Coding with SMF 2.x". Just an idea.
