Mod Package Not Visible

I recently updated one of my mods (SimplePortal) with a new package (SimplePortal_2.3.4_RC1.zip) but today I realized that it's only visible to primary author (SimplePortal Team) and additional authors ([SiNaN]).

I suppose the package is unapproved. However, I don't seem to have the permission to approve/disapprove mod packages. It was downloaded 240 times and I'm able to see the newly uploaded packages of other mods. So I assume it's not a bug related to the process of uploading a package.

May I know what's the problem there?

Thanks in advance!

fixed. the file was not approved and is now.

[SiNaN]

Thank you!

May I also please know why the package was unapproved? Neither my account nor the SimplePortal Team account has the permission to approve/unapprove mod packages and it's clearly not a bug with the process of uploading a package

i have no idea, there is nothing in the mods thread in the team boards that has anything about this.

You are dangerous, so any file you upload is unapproved by default! :P

Nice to see you around! ;)

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

As I said, the file was downloaded 240 times initially. When the download counter stopped at 240 for a fair bit of time, I checked and only then I found out that the package is not visible. So it was visible (approved) initially.

Since it wasn't us (the authors - because we can't, we don't have the permission) who unapproved the package, I would like to know why it was unapproved. Will a Customizer please investigate this?

last thing that was done to simpleportal was a file was removed on 11/17, there are no comments as to a file being unapproved.

[SiNaN]

Thanks for trying to help but in case you missed that part, I'm asking for a Customizer to look into the issue.

i do have access to look into it ;) just as much as they do.

[SiNaN]

I'm not sure about the access levels you have out there, but I was hoping that at least people who are responsible about the Customize Site would have a more logical explanation to this then just saying "I have no idea".

well with no related posts in the mods thread i dont know what else you expect, as you know actions are logged with posts so it still goes back to we dont know what happened.

Sorry SiNaN I don't see why there would have been any reason it was unapproved. I can only assume that someone accidentally clicked the wrong thing when updating the mod. Maybe when one of the files was removed it was accidentally set... If it happens again, please contact me directly and I'll take a look.

Good to see you again!

When I was trying the upload the package initially, it uploaded the package twice. So I removed one of those packages (on the same day I uploaded the package). However, the package became unapproved only after 240 downloads. Not the forget that our accounts does not have the permission to approve/unapprove mod packages.

So that leaves two options: A member who is allowed to unapprove packages unapproved the package or the Mod Site has a bug that lets someone who is not allowed to unapprove packages unapprove them somehow.

Well, it happened once, this time as you see. So nothing prevents you from taking a look at it now.

Also, you really need to implement a better logging system for the Customize Site, possibly by fixing the one in SVN, if it's still there. Still, you should be able to find out what happened to the mod with what you currently have.

Nothing prevents me? Really lol? How about real life responsibilities? How about a lack of a working knowledge of how somebody else coded the customize site? As you can see, there are plenty of things that can "prevent me" from being able to look at it.

We have the need to do much more than implement a better logging system. Unfortunately time, know-how, and abilities have not aligned in order to finish a new customize site, nor to update one yet.

From my stand point, your glitch isn't a real problem for me right now. It happened once, in how many years the customize site has been working? At this point, if it doesn't happen again, I'm not going to look into the problem unless it does. Sorry, but that is what it comes down to at this point.

Ok figured it out, and actually learned a few things. I didn't realize there was the option to toggle a single file as unapproved simply by clicking a little icon. Fustrate clicked the icon and toggled it off. He's just had surgery, so I won't have an answer for you until he is back about why, or if he even knew that he did it, until he's back on his feet again.

Hope that helps.

I said that in response to you saying that you would take a look at it only if it happened again. If you said that other things prevented you from checking the problem in the first place, I wouldn't have said it. I was merely emphasizing the fact that you don't need a problem to appear twice before finding out what's wrong.

A proper logging system is needed where additional authors are supported and there are more than a dozen of people on the team who has the permission to moderate Customize Site. I already expressed my feelings about the new Customize Site. So I'll just say this: If you aren't planning to replace the current site very soon, I think you should at least make sure the current one satisfies the needs of the community, as Customize Site is probably the most busiest section of this site after forum.

Well, it's a real problem because the new package I uploaded was unapproved for some reason, for a few days, and I wasn't notified of any problems in my mod or Mod Site. It's an even bigger problem for you, as there is something weird happening in the Mod Site which you aren't aware of.

Not sure what Fustrate had to with my mod, but I'll wait for his response. Thanks for looking into it.

And I'm sorry if I sounded pushy but I'm sure you'll understand me, someone who had to wait for almost 3 days and make 6 posts to get the last reply you posted.

It's quite easy to accidentally click on that button. I managed to do it last night when downloading a mod to review. It could be that's what happened here.

I think that the addition of a popup confirm window to that button would help to prevent a reoccurance of something similar happening in the future.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.

You should have known you could come directly to me for this problem SiNaN. There was not even a need to post a topic and wait that long for this problem :) You are lucky I even saw this topic lol. I don't normally come into site comments.

Well, I didn't feel the need to use the personal message system as it was a problem with the Customize Site. And I was given a response within less than an hour, by someone who is supposedly an undercover Customizer, but the response I wanted came pretty late and required quite a bit of effort at my end.
