Unlinking calendar events to posts

I have a number of calendar events linked to posts in a single thread and, having checked some checkbox somewhere, the events flag up at the top of the thread in a nice way. However, once the event has been and gone I would like to unlink it to that thread as it no longer needs to be at the top of it.

I don't want to delete the event (it's nice being able to look through past events) and I don't want to delete the post (as it holds many events, not just the one linked) I just want the link broken.

Can I do this?

you cant delete the link without removing the event from the calendar.
