We've a long way to go: Perhaps Beta 5, RC1+2 and Final.

I know I shouldn't be asking ;)
but in beta are new features still being added, or only sorting out bugs etc
Or it is at RC when there's no more features being added

cheers

AFAIK, some new features were added from Beta 3 -> Beta 4, I'm not sure it anymore features are coming after the betas though.

Beta's are open for new features (only a few), RC's has a feature stop, only bug-fixing.

Owdy

I heard a rumor that we are going to have beta 9

Betas only have a few new features? So is it the change from, for example, 1.0 -> 1.1 Beta 1 that contains the majority of new features? (I.e. The change from current stable version to first beta of new version contains the most new features)?

This "beta" version seems very stable and really shows the speed changes made.  I have been running them on test sites since the public release.
So the real question is, since I have older versions on my sites ( heavily moded that will only UpGrade ).  What is the best upgrade solution for the new 1.1 release ?
UpGrade to 1.05 or run the Beta ?

Well, I would upgrade to 1.05 via package manager, then install the 1.1 beta 3 UPGRADE zip file manually. When 1.1 is finally out it you will probably already have your templates and everything fixed and it will be a simple upgrade.

Cant do it via the pannel, have to do a UpGrade since I have so many old mods still working and so many custom skins :'(
Just saw about the MkPortal so I will have to do the 1.05

You don't have to upgrade to 1.0.5 first.

Upgrading (or updating? ) from the long awaiting SMF 1.1 RCx to SMF final
will affect Themes, custom Smilies and images?
In other words should the user backup (duplicate) the relative folders and then reverting any changes?
Thnx

I didn't have any trouble with the smilies or images. It only required some tweaking of the themes. Most people probably only use 2 or 3 custom theme files so it shouldn't take very long to update.

I know, so another stupid Q, if I goto the Beta now instead of 1.05 I assume that when the newest version is out there will be the same update and upgrade options for it as there are for 1.05 ( I am sure there will be but I like to ask  ;)  )

I'd say from past experience that the answer would be yes.
