Hi,
I've created a new forum and would like to transfer the member database and one of the Categories to the new one.
Is this possible in a some what simple way?

What happens if a extract the part from the database that contain topics and members and then just add them to the new one with phpmyadmin?

Does your new forum ready have existing data? If it does then you will have issues.

Its a small forum for friends and the new one have 2 members and the Forum set up but it doesn't have the Category that i wish to move yet.

Colin

Yes, but the way the database works is not what it looks like from the front end. If you don't know what you are doing I would highly suggest not making this transfer to a non-fresh install.

The thing is that i have tried to make a transfer to a clean install with crazy results, themes not working as they should, paths not working and so on. =/

It all looks so easy if I only look at the part I want in the db.

Colin

This might be something you should consider posting in the help wanted board if you want someone to do it for you.

The problem there is that I don't have the forum on my server anymore and the one that have the server is slow on getting things done and i don't think he will let anyone else in.

So this is all to find useful information on how it is done if possible.

But it seems strange that a simple input in the database would cause so much problems? Does the forum add thing elsewere when i create a topic or member that does it?

Colin

To not get into too much detail, members and categories area given a unique ID which then seperate services within SMF reference. If you were to import members and categories from an old forum to a non-fresh install, some UID's may be duplicate, thus screwing everything up.

hmm... What if i remove all topics or should there be no Boards or categories? Right now there is only one and the "default" welcome topic anyway.

Colin

I will be happy to take a look if you are willing to provide some credentials.
