I just installed simpleportal on my forum (im using dziner studio free theme) but the SimplePortal button does not show in the navigation bar and if i try to access the portal settings with the URL ,the page just shows like the main admin page ,not simpleportal .

Any idea pls?

Angelina Belle

It sounds like the installation was not sucessful.
The Simple Portal stuff was not added to the admin menu. This indicates that the file edits did not happen.
Please also check in the Sources to see if PortalBlocks.php is there - this will tell you if the part of the install where files were copied into the Sources directory went OK.

This is sometimes the result of certain permission settings on certain hosts. The SMF package manager thinks that permissions are set appropriately, so it thinks installation must have been successful, but it does not have confirmation that the changes actually happened. This problem could occur with any large mod.

Please see the documentation at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems

The simplest thing to try (and therefore our first recommendation) is to create a folder called temp in the Packages folder, and give that temp folder 755 permission (using CHMOD or whatever tool your host provides).  If your host allows use of 777 for that folder, try that.

While installing it I got this error
"12.     Execute Modification     ./Sources/Subs.php     Test failed"

I'm using 1.16, please how can I go about it, as I need this?

TheListener

This just means that a manual edit is required using the mods parser.

In layman terms:

The package manger can not find the line of code the software is looking for to either REPLACE the code or ADD code BEFORE or AFTER said line.  Because it can't find the line in your current code,  most likely due to another mod having already been installed that has moved or changed that line (or combination of lines),  it can't insert the code it's attempting to insert so you get the error.

What you need to do is manually edit that one file.

Are you familiar with manually editing code?

I was using SMF 2.0RC1 and upgraded the SP version to 2.3.5.  Everything went just fine.  Until I scrolled down on my home page.  At the bottom there appeared a mystery block I hadn't created.  It's VERY long top to bottom and it shows a whole bunch of posts... 8 pages of them!  One actual page and 7 pages of continuation links.

When I upgraded the main forum to SMF v2.0.2, it was still there.  I have no idea how it got there or how to remove it.  I didn't create it and it's not showing as a bottom block in the SP admin.

I don't know if it's somehow garbled into the display template or if it's in the portal files.  I just need it gone!

The best way to see what I mean is to just take a look.  Go to my home page and scroll down.... and keep scrolling and scrolling.  After the end of the phantom block, there's a bottom block, "member sponsored stores".  This one IS supposed to be there.

Thanks - !

OO

Motorhomes. Are you trying to make me jealous whilst I have a look at your portal?

I'd love to swap my house for one.

Anyways dreaming aside do you have any articles activated on the forum?

Mark S

Yes, I do.  And there's a block for them on the right blocks.  However, interesting thing... I am also having a similar problem with two other blocks appearing inside the the "pages" I created.  I was trying to get them out using the admin panel and accidentally hit the compatibility view icon in my IE 9 browser... guess what?  They ALL disappeared!  So, I guess that was the answer.

The site is very popular and there are thousands of people who own 30+ year old RVs.  They can be a lot of fun to tinker with, just like old cars... only bigger!  And, more and more Americans are turning to the vintage RVs as, what I call, "mobile alternative living options." - LOL!

That's right rub it in. Since we first saw a fifth wheel in the UK we have since seen several.

Quite a site seeing these turn up at a campsite.

Anyways is the problem still occurring? If so if you would pm a temp admin account I will take a peep for ya.

Mark S

Yeah, it's still there.  I had a couple of windows open and was looking at my "Test" site, which was a clean build to which I just transferred some database tables into to see how things would look.  The problem is still there.  I can temp admin you.  Not sure how to do that without going through our registration.

TheListener

No rush.

Can ya do it via pm though please.

I don't know how to edit that please I attach my file here so that you help me edit that, please? Also let me know the line you edit.

Is it only the SUBS file that you had an error with?   If so,  you're looking at a dozen  or so different edits.  Which of the edits is giving you an error?

perfec2

Is only in subs.php i have "Test fail" error others went successful.

You can expand the SUBS area where it failed and it will tell you which edits failed... I doubt all 14 edits (it looks like) failed.

perfec2

I don't know how to expand and know the one that fails, that is why i come here and attached my file for i to be helped. if this is the only way what are the steps?

During the installation process... the package manager will show you a failure in the subs file... you can expand that list to see which edit(s) fail.  Try to install... when it fails,  expand the list and take a screen shot... post it here.  You may have to scroll and take multiple screen shots as there at 14 edits being made to that file.

I'm using 1.16 version of smf, I can't see the expand option after I just try to reinstall. What am missing here?

Sorry... I am not familiar with 1.1.16's package installation methods... I only have experience with 2.0.2.
