Hi!

I'm new to SMF and I'm having some problems making a theme for the forum.

So here's my dilemma, I've downloaded a theme for version 2.0.x called "SquareEra_SMF2" and I've tried replacing some of the existing theme pictures with my own (by using the same name and format as the original so i don't have to change much code.)

but when i upload the "tweaked" theme in a zip file through admin panel, it seems the HOLE theme gets corrupted by these changes, and it seems oddly strange that these changes will corrupt even the outlay of the page and displays no image at all ( changed or not )

I first tried the "bermena" theme, but since i discovered it was a version 1.0x theme i thought that was the problem but now I'm having the exact same problem with this as well, and I'm absolutely stuck.

My actions :

*Download theme in .zip

*unzip the pack

*makes minor graphical changes by replacing images with my own ( same file format and name as original )

*re zip it in .zip

*upload via admin control panel.

Ive tried upload the original .zip theme withut unzipping and making changes, and those works fine.
And even if my small image replacing have done some wrong its strange that it seems to corrupt the hole coda and layout of the theme.

NEED HELP !

Why not just edit the pieces and parts of the installed theme rather than creating a separate version of it? With FTP access or something similar, you can overwrite many of the files in the theme directory including images (and the CSS if need be). :)

To answer your question as to why it's not working, when you zip it up, I'm guessing that you're zipping the entire directory that the theme's in.

You only zip the contents of that directory, not the directory, itself. ;)

@mashby :

Lol strangly that way around works, installing the original first and changing it in ftp, even with the "already made" made changed that bugged it when zipped, works if i change through ftp, isnt that kinda strange ?

@K:

I actually made that mistake the first time, but noticed it and only zipped content, still the same error tho :(

Cheers for the helpful comments! i think il do this through ftp since its faster and strangly more stable :P

It was worth checking. ;)

Good you're sorted, though. :)
