SMF 2.0.2 Installed & Working, now can I have WordPress also?

I'm learning as I go along.  Decided today I'd like the SMF forum behind a WP button.  Do I have wipe & reinstall SMF?  I assume it's going to be a subdirectory of the WP installation.  Any help?pbnwdg

You *can*, though it's mostly a case of moving the files and changing some of the settings (but typically a 5 minute job)

Better question is why the effort, complexity and hassle that is WP? I don't run WP if I can help it, instead I run SMF with a portal mod which offers me all the same practical abilities to have content on the front page, and ship the 'forum' to a 'forum' button on the menu - but without having to have two pieces of software with update cycles (and WP's track record is not good on this score, actually) and without the performance mess that is trying to optimise WP.

Because I only know how to do a few things, and am trying to get the site fully operational with as fast of a learning curve as possible.  Also, for some reason I feel like articles on a WP site would have more "weight" with Google than the same text posted in a forum.  I don't know why I think that, but I do.

Also, I want to install Google Analytics and I don't know how one would do that with an SMF forum.  When I imagined using SMF (it was recommended to be the best free forum software, and I like open-source anyways), I imagined it as a piece of the website, and not the whole entire thing.  I figured I'd have a full-blown website, with a button for people to click if they wanted to connect via the forum.

As an aside, does the image verification eventually go away, or am I going to have to learn to live with it?

Arantor

The image verification here goes away once you reach 10 posts.

There's a mod for it. Though it's nice that you want to erode your users' privacy in exchange for some statistics.

There is no evidence to support that.

And bridging SMF and WP is a huge hurdle, assuming you actually want things to work together using a single login (so that people can comment on topics without having to login twice or anything).

If you're determined to use WP, don't bother getting a custom theme because it invariably requires customisation at the code level when WP inevitably patches the next security hole.

Alternatively, set up SMF, add something like Simple Portal and the Google Analytics mod and you're set - plus you have a single consistent look and feel throughout the site with no extra effort.

I've done the same and added the portal mod only to have a page I can add paypal buttons and other goodies and decided it was not worth installing and creating and populating a wordpress site
