A good feature would be to allow admins and moderators to ban users from threads.

This board is for requesting features that you want to see in SMF by default. Mod requests go in the Mod Requests board.

I think the idea was that this should be a core feature, based on the other thread asking about it, but that reiterates what I was saying about it being unlikely to be added.

I thought the original post said that they wanted a mod, so that's why I responded the way I did.

I still don't see this being added though, as it's not something many people would use, and would further complicate SMF's permissions system. On top of that, the topic would have to be hidden from guests as well or the user could just logout and read it.

I don't think it's about banning from reading, but I think it's about limiting their ability to reply or cause trouble... though realistically they can just start a new thread or PM or whatnot - whether the topic is inaccessible to them or not.

This.

It just seems counter productive to me.  If someone is causing trouble handle it using standard forum rules.  For example, if someone's flaming/trolling/spamming in a particular thread, use the normal rules of your forum to clamp down on that sort of behaviour.  You don't need a banning from threads feature as standard to deal with this.

that's why there is a MOD requests board.
requests like this, which target the needs or desires of s single site, but are, overall not needed, desired or desirable (in this case for a variety of reasons), belong as mods.  If the mod becomes popular enough, it may be considered for a future release... but it is unlikely that this one ever would.....

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.
