How do i upload a mod to my forum? do i have to have the forum download it directly from a link or do i download the mod to my computer then upload it to my forum? i cant figure out the package manager because im a noob here.

xenovanis

Eitherway. You can download a mod from the modpage on this site and install it using the Packagemanager: Admin -> Packages -> Download Packages -> Upload a Package

Or you can install a package directly from this or any other package server: Admin -> Packages -> Download Packages -> Browse {Package server}

You *really* need to upgrade your version of SMF...that's why you're experiencing these issues.

No need to uninstall, just run the upgrade :).  Would you like to upgrade to SMF 1.0.5 or SMF 1.1 RC1?

deathwantsme

what is best? and i would prefer to unistall and re install because over all, it is better. It prevents some bugs that may occur unless the new system has bugs.

Don't uninstall; it would complicate things, I promise.  Just upgrade and you'll be fine.  I recommend you upgrade to SMF 1.1 RC1.

id really prefer not to, but i will just upgrade i suppose. Im having FTP issues and am trying to sort them out with my host as we read and type.

Well, if you're not comfortable with using a release candidate, I highly recommend that you upgrade to SMF 1.0.5 (final).

i mean id rather not just upgrade. Leaves loose ends that can be bothersome.

That's not true.  At the moment, the version of SMF that you are using is at risk because of the recent exploit on SMF versions lower than 1.0.5.  SMF 1.0.5 is the safest (final) release as of now.

safest how?

It's protected from the recently discovered exploit that affects the version of SMF you're currently using.

deathwantsme

what kind of exploit? im a pretty big noob when it comes to this stuff. Im comming from invisionfree to SMF so its a big step for me. I tried phpbb but modding it just scares me lol. All that find and replace stuff is annoying and i screwed up something in it without backing it up so id like to stay away from that.

An exploit that can overtake a forum completely.  Honestly, you are at high risk and should upgrade immediately.  I suggest you make a backup of your database before upgrading, just in case.

i would do that if i were to unistall and re install right? (just wondering so if i want to uninstall and re install the final version, i can) then i upload it in the package manager right?

I'm sorry if you're misunderstanding this.  You cannot uninstall and then install the final version.  Your database *needs* to be upgraded in order to work with the final version.  Packages should work just fine after upgrading.
