I installed SMF 2.0.6 today. i uploaded with filezilla and the upload was successful. But i couldnt install because

Checking Files are Writable
Some files need to be writable for SMF to work properly. This step allows you to let the installer make them writable for you. However, in some cases it won't work - in that case, please make the following files 777 (writable, 755 on some hosts):

attachments/index.php
avatars/index.php
cache/index.php
Packages/index.php
Packages/installed.list
Smileys/index.php
Themes/index.php
agreement.txt
Settings.php
Settings_bak.php

!!Critical Error!

You're on a windows server, and some crucial files are not writable. Please ask your host to give write permissions to the user PHP is running under for the files in your SMF installation. The following files or directories need to be writable:
attachments/index.php
avatars/index.php
cache/index.php
Packages/index.php
Packages/installed.list
Smileys/index.php
Themes/index.php
agreement.txt
Settings.php
Settings_bak.php

Now the problem is i dont know how to go about it. I have searched online possible ways out but no solution so far. I dont even know how to locate on uploaded files.

Can someone pleeese help me out :(
The steps to take
thanks

kat

First off, did you have Filezilla's "Transfer type" set to "binary"? The default, "auto", tends to break things...

To do the file permissions, you can use Filezilla.

If you select files/directories and right-click, you'll see "File permissions". :)

this what i got when i followed your instruction

whats next

Well, the error you got, might give you a clue... ;)

"You're on a windows server and some crucial files are not writeable. Please ask your host to give write permissions to the user PHP is running under for the files in your SMF installation".

If you're not on a windows server, make sure you enable "Owner" and "Group" read/write permissions, until the installation's complete.

Thanks

You can't set file permissions with FileZilla on a GoDaddy windows account, you have to use the GD control panel.  I've always had FZ transfer type set to 'auto', and never had a problem with GD.  You might be happier if you have them move your account to a linux box, I think the cost is the same.

When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

yes, I'm having this problem

Not sure how GD  handles payment, but I know they give you the option of a windows or linux account.  Shouldn't cost anything to switch, but have never done it.

Chalky

When I switched from Windows to Linux with GD they didn't charge me.
