Mail queue not sending, 500 Internal error when "Send Mail Queue Now"

I'm not sure when, but my SMF install has stopped processing mail. It had been working, but I'm not sure when it stopped since there aren't many notifications that get sent out and I don't have frequent registrations. Frankly I'm not even sure where to start trouble shooting this. I'm using GoDaddy SMTP mail, and I check the mail server settings and they are correct.

When I click Send Mail Queue Now in Firefox or Chrome I actually just get a blank page with a URL like  hxxp:mydomain.com/index.php?action=admin;area=mailqueue;sa=clear;fb68f81=c04c3b0fb3092b5d410286cf747e9590 [nonactive] and nothing ever loads. When I tried it from IE, then I get the 500 Internal Server error. I'm not sure if it's related, but I have the same problem with Optimize Tables Task. For some reason this also isn't creating any error logs.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I just tried running the testmail.php, and it said mail sent. I haven't received anything though.

how many members do you have? is this for digest or newsletters?

Usually this issue comes down to server setup ... so host ... and on quick search godaddy is quite bad for it

The board is pretty small, it gets used for a small gaming group. We only have 47 registrants. The forums are running on Ubuntu 13.04 on a virtual private server. Mail previously had been working fine. As for the content, absolutely no mail will send at all, newsletter, notifications, nada. I can't remember the last email that was sent out, but since then I may have upgraded to 2.07 and installed SimplePortal, but I think mail was working since those were installed.

you have a vps for a small forum :/

the basic questions are any errors in smf log and cpanel log and what mail type are you using (sorry if you said i may have missed it)?

Also do you have mail que enabled if so what the the set parameters?

Yes, it's a fairly inexpensive deal. I got a promotion on a nice little VPS for like $10/month, it does however host a TeamSpeak server as well as a Openfire Jabber server.

Mail is SMTP and is sent through GoDaddy's hxxp:smtpout.secureserver.net [nonactive] adderess. There are no errors being posted in SMF error log which makes this all the more troubling. There's no CPanel it's all managed manually.

Turns out I was looking for logs in the wrong place. I had to go digging through my Apache2 logs and I found that a few items in ScheduledTasks.php that were added from a plugin had been declared twice and were breaking the task functionality. I'm going to report the issue to the mod creator. Thank you the assist!
