Using hooks removal messed up something

Alright, I was getting tons of errors with guest logging in permissions related so I thought that it's possibly hooks related.

What I've done:
- uninstalled all mods
- ran this hooks removal tool http://webdevelop.comli.com/index.php?topic=33.0
(yes, it was quite stupid of me forgetting that repair_settings.php has hooks removal
- ran large upgrade to 2.0.8 to clean everything

Everything works but... Database optimising. Click, clock spins and nothing happens.

Trying to run "legit" hooks removal from repair_settings.php results in this error in log:
PHP Fatal error:  Call to undefined function cache_put_data() in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/forum/repair_settings.php on line 965

Help?

EDIT: DB optimize now works, it was something so stupid I refuse to explain. Marking as solved.

The issues are probably unrelated...

The Database optimizing issue has probably to do with some timeout in the operation. I've seen a similar issue not that long ago with attachments maintenance. I'd like to follow this with you.

The issue with repair_settings is different and I'll have a look at it ;)

Ok, I'll say why database maintenance wasn't working: I wanted to create search index few days ago and probably accidentally closed its tab so it was left unfinished since it's large forum.

After deleting that unfinished index - database maintenance started working again. :)
