Private Board?

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if there is a way to have a private board. Meaning that any member can make a thread, but its only visible to the OP and staff members. So, is there a way?

I think that this should go in the mod request section rather than here as AFAIK you can't do this...

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

There is no way out of the box to do this.

There's been a couple of mods that approached it, however private topics generally causes a non-trivial performance hit, the other option is SimpleDesk which provides a full ticket tracking/helpdesk system but is built around having topic privacy.

Sorry if this a bit off the mark, but what about using topic approval? I'm pretty sure topics pending approval are only viewable by mods and the OP. Then I guess you gotta make sure that your staff don't accidentally approve a topic. I guess seeing "(awaiting approval)" on all of your topics might be a bit off-putting though. I dunno, just a thought.

Arantor

That would work, yes, but there are some side effects. It's possible that the moderator replies will appear in unexpected places like the recent list, and they won't show up in some cases of unread/unread replies which means moderators may not see them (and users may not see the replies)

Except that after the approval the post would become visible to everybody so... You are right only when you say it's off the mark IMO ;)

Not if you don't approve the topic, there's nothing that says you have to, just have to remember not to do so. But yeah, it's quite easily done that it might.

If you don't approve the topic I don't see the point of making it at all... It couldn't be answered so the asker wouldn't get an answer anyway and it would be useless O.o

Of course it could be answered. Moderators that can approve can still reply.

It's how the showcase board here works - topic gets started, moderators reply, then it can be approved after discussion is necessary.

Ninja: OP can also reply. But yes it is a bit clumsy.

?: Interesting stuff about the recent list and unread replies, I didn't know that.

Ninja ZX-10RR

It's... Tricky IMO. I would like to know what the asker thinks about this thing...
Lol you posted a sec earlier :)

I did have SimpleDesk before but it caused some problems though. I did kind of think about the approval/disapproval thing but I didn't know that you can reply to a topic that hasn't been approved. I might just try that, thanks guys!! :)

EDIT: oh and the reason this isn't in the mod request board is because I was wondering is this is a default feature or not. :p

Arantor

You just got the attention of SimpleDesk's author. What problems?

Mstcool

Oh, I didn't know you were the author. This happened a while ago but I believe I messed up somehow because I was put my forum in the maintenance mode and kept the helpdesk open and I don't know how, but that totally wiped out my whole forum. But I think I solved the problem so I am planning on using SimpleDesk again. It's a really nice mod, thanks for making it!! :)

Arantor

Hmm, there is an edge condition where that could happen but it's not specific to SimpleDesk, rather a condition that can cause Settings.php to be wiped out regardless (I know it's been fixed in 2.1, not sure about 2.0.x)

But if that works for you, great :)

Alright, thanks for the information. :)

Just bumpin' this to let you know that I recently installed SimpleDesk and it worked perfectly!

Thanks for making it! :)
