After successful Installation, I have 2 problems

Win 7, Laptop, 17", Chrome

After a successful installation;

1. SM does not accept my Admin password .

2.  When I try to reset it with my admin mail, SM doesn't send any e-mail even a message box says "A mail has been sent to your email address. Click the link in that mail to set a new password".

So I don't know if this problem was written by somebody else but  if it was, sorry about it. However I'll be waiting for the answer..

Welcome to SMF :).

Which version of SMF are you using?

if you look on the board index. does it list your user as the most recent user registered?

A.A.S

Yes I see the my admin name as a registered or recent user. but now I can not open the forum page either. Even I made a link to forum page from my website it says " Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /forum/ on this server"

I am very pissed off now..

Illori

sounds like an issue with the server you are running the server on. have you tried to contact your host and ask them to look into it?

A.A.S

No, I didn't. Because there is no problem about installation. Whenever I want to log in as Admin, it does not accept the password and asks me to reset it via the admin e-mail. When I write the admin e-mail address then it says "A mail has been sent to your email address. Click the link in that mail to set a new password" but it does not send the e-mail.

Kindred

so -- what is that "forbidden" error that you are talking about?  If you can get to the forum to attempt a login or trigger a lost password email, then you don't have a "forbidden" error.

it sounds like you did not properly configure your forum email address -- and/or your server does not allow phpmail.
it also sounds like you may have fat-fingered the password.

Since it's a brand new installation, I recommend DELETING the current installation and database and trying to set it up as a clean install once more time.

Ok,

Please forget the "forbidden", probably it is related to website. Just to summarize it again;

1. There is no problem with the installation of 2.0.8 and 2.1 Beta. Both of them are completed OK. And I enter my e-mail address and passwords etc absolutely right at the beginning,  there is no mistake about it.
2. Every time I try to login as admin I have the same problem.
    a.  It doesn't accept my password for admin.
    b.  Even it says, an e-mail was sent, it does not send any e-mail to reset the password.

A.A.S

And I tried deleting forum and database then started from the beginning again and again but it didn't work..

Please use 2.0.10 and not 2.0.8 ;)

Did you used a valid email address from your domain at the installation?
Eg, if your forum is www.forum.com, you need to use an email like [email protected] and this email has to exist in your server

A.A.S

Yes, exactly. No problem with them. As you can guess, I tried everything from the beginning. 2.1 is asking two e-mails as one for the admin and the other one is for webmaster. 2.0.8 and 2.0.10 is asking for only one e-mail. Anyway there is no problem with e-mails or passwords.

SMF uses by default PHP's mail() function to send emails, so if it doesn't "go out", it's probably a mismatch with something that the server is expecting...

SMF 2.0.x uses the same email address for the administrator and webmaster, what we did was to give you the possibility to use different emails in 2.1 ;) But the principle is the same: the webmaster's email address (which is the one used as the "From" address) has to be accepted by your server.

About the password: can we get a phpinfo?
What is a phpinfo() file?

I couldn't find php.info.  I found something about services but I don't know whether it is useful or not..

Illori

you have to create the file as the page on the wiki tells you. then you provide a link to the file so someone can look at it for you.

A.A.S

I solved the administration password problem with one of the topic in "support" part. I used administrate.php script and I added another admin. Now I have to erase the previous admin. E-mail post problem is still same and I don't know what to do yet..

A.A.S

I erased the previous admin. So after all, I have only e-mail post problem..

Kindred

administrate.php?

That is not a file that comes with SMF....

and mail problems are, almost invariably, a problem with the host or a problem with the configuration...

administrate.php?

it is a file that lab made and posted in the tips/tricks board to make a user an admin.

A.A.S

I chosed PHP and SMTP in SM E-mail settings, but non of them made any difference. When a new member signs up, it says a message was sent but it does not send any message. And I'm pissed off because I can't choose the option of "administrator should approved" for the new memberships.
