Hey, so I've just got my website back after it's been down for a while. Anyway I was having a problem with the default themes directory so I went into the themes pannel and there was a button at the bottom to attempt to locate the paths automatically I think. I clicked that and when I refreshed the page my website is still on some strange buggy theme but when I try to get back onto the admin pannel it simply says "You are not allowed to access this section", so I have no way of attempting to restore the website to its original state.

How do I get my admin rights back?

Thanks

Try this: http://{YOUR FORUM URL GOES HERE}/index.php?action=admin

Hey, the forum is www.solidarityeu.co.uk [nofollow] as you can see the template is pretty broken right now and I'm still getting 'the default themes directory is incorrect' at the top.

I tried the admin URL and I get the same error as before.

Can you try repair settings to see if you can at least get the correct paths set first. This link will give some more info about repair settings and what it does- http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php

Ok great, I'll give that a try when I get home from work, thanks!

Ok, so I downloaded it and put it in my root foler (do I need to unzip it? because I'm getting an error when I try), I then enterd my url followed by /repair_settings.php however it just says page not found?

Sir Osis of Liver

Is your forum in /public_html?  repair_settings.php should be in same directory as forum root (with Settings.php).

I'm fairly new to this, when you say /public_htlm? you mean is it installed in a directory called that? No it is installed in the root, and I put the repair_settings.php in the root also (with my settings.php file). It is currently a zipped file, do I need to unzip it as I am recieving errors when trying to do so?

Alright, well when I download it it just says "Repair_settings.php.zip The archive is either in unknown format or damaged", I can't open it with WinRar I tried 2 other programs, I also attempted to unzip it using the website however it also got an error. Is there any other program I should be using?

Sir Osis of Liver

Why is it zipped?  If you d/l it from here it's not zipped.  Use the attached file.

Strange, I've no idea why, but when I download it, it is called repair_settings.php.zip, says the same thing when I upload it, also tried downloading it from 2 other places and it's also "zipped" there also ...

Sir Osis of Liver

Use the file I attached.  If it uploads as repair_settings.php.zip, just rename it to repair_settings.php

Ok, well that was very strange, weird how it was randomly showing as a zipped file confusing me, got it working now, hopefully I can fix the directories now, thanks.
