Hi sonexay!

I'm so good to hear that. and I'm Thai people.

You can translate Thai to Lao language by your self.

change from index.thai-utf8.php to index.lao-utf8.php file.

and open index.lao-utf8.php file, edit below:

$txt['lang_locale'] = 'lo_LA';
$txt['lang_dictionary'] = 'lo';
$txt['lang_spelling'] = 'lao';

and change *.thai-utf8.php to *.lao-utf8.php all files in languages folder.

ex: Settings.thai-utf8.php change to Settings.lao-utf8.php

PS: if you have any question, just you tell me...

Download the Thai language pack from here, extract the content and start translating the php files (basically, they are text files) in Themes\default\languages. Make a copy of each file and rename it. For example, copy Admin.thai.php, rename it to Admin.lao.php and start translating it.

Alternatively, if it helps (it does in many cases ;)), you can download the UTF-8 English language pack as well. You can download it here. It's a great reference and may (probably will) come in handy when translating the words/phrases ;).

In any case, it's preferable that you download the UTF-8 language packs ;). The file names differ. For example, the Thai language pack admin menu file is named Admin.thai.php, but the UTF-8 Thai Admin menu file is named Admin.thai-utf8.php. One file has one code page,  the other has another code page. So, when you're translating in one code page (one file), stick to it, don't change files, and don't change the name of the file to something-utf8. For example, if you start translating Admin.thai.php and you're done translating it to Tao, you're allowed to change the name to Admin.tao.php, but not to Admin.tao-utf8.php, since this file is not written in the UTF-8 code page.

which software should I use to modify these php file?

Notepad++ is the preferred tool to do these sorts of changes. You can download it from here. It supports tabs, so you can open multiple files in the same window and switch from one to another for reference ;). It supports code highlighting, files with all sorts of code pages, opening up files is as easy as drag and drop and I think that by default it remembers sessions (files you've opened up before you've closed the program, open up in the same tab order and in the same scroll position where you last left them, before you closed the program). If it doesn't support this feature by default, you can enable it ;).

Here are some Wiki links on languages ;): SMF 2.0 Languages, UTF-8 Readme, Installing a Language
