Hi,

Think about it, to add information on the registration page in SMF 2.1 about the need to provide a valid email address. Many people give a fictitious email.

Example:

Email Address:
This must be a valid email address.

In phpBB, if I select the activation function via email in the registration, this message will appear automatically on the registration page:

QuotePlease note that you will need to enter a valid email address before your account is activated. You will receive an email at the address you provide that contains an account activation link.

Maybe you will add the same function? Think about it.

I have something like that on my website currently (https://biology-forums.com/index.php?action=register, although I found over the years its best not to have an activation feature because these days many emails are flagged as spam, even ones that are not. So you lose many potential members due to frustration. My advice is to make it easiest as possible.

I understand it, but on my forum I prefer to have account activation by clicking the link.

It would be good if this information appeared in the registration. This is a suggestion.

Completely agree. I got the sense you were asking how its done, my bad!

I'd say, the simplest solution would be to add additional text in the registration template (of your forum's language).

Example. Original text:

$txt['email'] = 'Email Address:'

Modified text:

$txt['email'] = 'Email Address (must be a valid one):'
"This is really a generic concept about human thinking - when faced with large tasks we're naturally inclined to try to break them down into a bunch of smaller tasks that together make up the whole."

"A 500 error loosely translates to the webserver saying, "WTF?"..."

All right.

Exactly. That's why I present this suggestion for programmers 2.1. While creating an administrator account in installation 2.1 there is such information.

really?

I think it's implied and not necessary to spell it out like that

^^ Never assume what your end-user is thinking. I completely agree with the suggestion, but not the implementation.

I think most people are happy with the way things are.

If you want a change like you suggest, then GiGaWatt has supplied a simple solution you can implement for your forum.

If people provide a fake email address then they probably aren't really interested in being a genuine user...

On the other hand I use two popular and complementary anti spam mods on my forum, but if I had auto activation I'd be getting one or two spammers a day automatically approved....  so like jsx I prefer to use the email activation feature.

I have auto activation and have not had a spammer register in 2 years...

I know that I can add such information in my language file. I understand it, but in my suggestion I meant that such information will be introduced to 2.1 for everyone. That's it all, the thread is exhausted.
