Not sure this is a good idea. Reg members don't need to see what mods and admins are doing. Is this permission based so we can turn it off to them?

No info about the mod  in your post.

Kindred

No. There are no permissions...

To be clear, what will it say if SMF doesn't know what the action is? Does it just say viewing the index or link to the area or something?

Yes I must say I agree here. For non admins it would be good if it said something like "Performing an administrative action" instead of where I am in Admin. You never know when doing routine checks or changing something could spark some sort of "OMG the forum has bugs/security issues/admin's doing x/y/z I don't like!" hysteria.

Most forum software has it hidden for a reason and privacy is a good reason to hide this [admin actions] stuff.

I've just been notified of an update to this mod, but the latest version, 1.3, is what I already have installed. Am I missing the point somewhere?

Tonyvic

It's probably because the Mod was updated today, I presume simply to add SMF 2.0.17
The Mod page states:

It says 1.3 is compatible with 2.0.17? Odd??

Shades.

Need this for 2.1.1 because I have a lot of unknowns in MY whos online page! O:)

This is in core in 2.1. If your forum is acting up, you have a rogue mod.

For example in an incognito window here I went to index.php?action=unknown3, who's online reports that that guest is 'Viewing the unknown3' with a little icon to indicate that they got an error while doing so.

So it will be reporting cases for you for the online list in line wiht what this mod would normally do.

Shades.

I thought that was so, thanks for clarifying!
I have some that say "Nothing or nothing you can see" so maybe I need to start another topic for support?

No, that's a different thing.

Consider the following: topic 1 is created, topic 1 is indexed by search engines, you delete topic 1, search engine visits topic 1. It can't say 'viewing topic xyz' because the topic no longer exists. The search engine is therefore viewing 'nothing, or nothing you can see'.

The rationale is that when the hit is logged, it simply logs 'tried to view topic 1', and for the list of online, it looks up 'what is topic 1, and is it in a board I can see' - there's no (efficient) way to tell 'is this a topic that has been deleted/never created' or 'this is a topic I can't see'

Especially in the latter case you won't want to list the actual name of the topic because if it's in a board the user can't see, you don't want to risk leaking it, so it reports 'nothing or nothing you can see'. Which will be true: either it doesn't exist (nothing) or you don't have permission (nothing you can see).

I'll admit the wording isn't great but it *is* correct.

Shades.

Ok thanks I believe I understand now! :)  8)
