Question about converting Yabb 2.1 to SMF 2.0.17

I have checked the forums and can't find the answer to this question.  If I have missed it - apologies.

I should like to upgrade a small forum from Yabb to SMF 2.0.17.

Does the converter only READ the Yabb input, not overwrite it - ie if there are problems, will the original Yabb forum still remain?

The reason I ask is that I have installed several mods on the Yabb forum which I haven't worked out how they will (or won't) appear in the conversion.

Any help for an old, thick forum admin would be much appreciated.

SMF only does not modify the old data when the converting is done.

most likely when you convert those old mods data will not be converted unless something special has been added to convert that data.

As mentioned above, the converter will not alter the source forum at all. It will simply bring its data from the source forum to the smf forum. A.f.a.i.k., the converter does not convert third party mods data.

I ran convert.php and I got :-

Before you continue
This converter assumes you have already installed SMF and that your installation is working properly. It copies posts and data from your "source" installation of YaBB 1 Gold into SMF, so it won't work without an installation of SMF. All or some of the data in your installation of SMF will be overwritten.
Where are they?
The converter should only need to know where the two installations are, after which it should be able to handle everything for itself.
Path to SMF:    xxxxxxxx
This may be the right path.
Path to YaBB 1 Gold:     xxxxxxxx
You will need to change the value in this box.

It is YaBB 2.1 I am trying to convert, not YaBB 1 Gold.

Is this just a hangover from a precious version. IE this convert.php is OK to run against YaBB 2.1.
