Boards not showing for guests

I have three installs of 2.0.17 all virtually identical as far as updates/mods and what is enable/disabled.
but one site , when logged out does not show the boards to guests.
Just stats/users online
I have checked and rechecked and cannot figure out why.
What could i be missing?

a few things to check
in your admin under configuration then features and options
is Allow guests to browse the forum checked?

in your admin under forum then boards
click on modify of each and every board
under Allowed Groups:
is Guests checked?

Yes

THIS was it, the issue was i was check marking them and not "saving" so to speak (Modify Board).

*side note* don't check on boards you don't want guests to access, or same with any other group (if you have group specific boards)

OK thank you for that insight. out of curiosity, if permissions for guest account is view only is there anything that can be intrinsically dangerous by allowing guest access?

Nope. No problem with that I'm aware of.

na...I don't allow guests to make posts either...they can view and search the forum but can't do a lot of other things without registering.
imo allowing guests to post and other stuff is basically just allowing a free-for-all and can become problematic later on when you get some trolls/spambots
