Upgrade to rc4 hangs on database changes

I am trying to upgrade from RC 3 to RC 4 and the upgrade hangs on the first database change (backup database), it does nothing ...
Can you confirm that it is compatible with my mysql server?

5.7 should be fine.  No issues with Percona.

Do a db backup using either mysqldump or phpmyadmin.

Then attempt an upgrade again without the backup option checked in the upgrader.

I turned off two factor authentication for admin account and it updated successfully.

Is it a bug? I haven't read it anywhere.

Not to hijack Massl's thread nor the issue already logged over at GitHib but I had the hanging on update problem as well, it either hung on the backup or if skipping the backup the next operation. I didn't have 2FA enabled at all.

Running the upgrade from the CLI worked without issue. Unfortunately I couldn't work out why it was hanging when running through the browser.
