Is there a way to search for a word like "ash" without it returning words like "ashville", "nashville", "washington" etc. My search often returns 20 to 30 pages of phrases but only 1 page contains what I was searching for. Normally I would use quotes ("ash") around the item I am looking for but that does not work here.
Thanks

I don't think it is possible but I could be wrong.

I had wondered the same thing.
The configuration of my Linux VPS (SMF 2.0 with 160+ mods & some assorted manual tweaks) can be found here and notes on my mods can be found here (warning: those links will take you to a drug related forum). My (House) music DJ dedication page is here

That's always annoyed me on this forum, you can't search an exact string so it returns a lot of irrelevant bits and pieces. >:(
When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

Yes it's very annoying especially when you do a lot of modding and can't remember everything you've fixed or worked on in the past and have to search and the results come back 10 pages long! I've just been using "My Posts" in profile to look for stuff I participated in...much easier than the search thingy lol!

(Need a way to be able to search "My Posts" in profile too) ;)

Search has had an option for matching 'by author' for many years...?

Thanks for your replies, was hoping I just had not figured it out but looks like it's just not available.

It mostly depends which type of search you use.

If you have no search index, definitely no go, but if you use either full text index or custom index this should work by default the other way - namely you'll get ash but not ashville as a match for 'ash'.
