Hi all

Well I've upgraded from smf 2.0.19 to  smf 2.1.1 and they some errors, one is that the smileys are missing form reply box, I've been over all the setting in profile & themes, looks okay, it's all there, any ideas? I've added some images.

Thanks for any suggestions in advanced you may offer.

Can you run the repair_settings.php tool and verify that Smileys URL and Smileys Directory settings point to the right direction?

Looks like the OP has just reinstalled 2.0 from scratch...?

Hello
Yes repair_settings.php says the right things, looks correct.

Hello
Can't says, all said 2.1.1 or 2.1

Tryed clean installation of 2.1.1 and it's all works but can't get my date base to work with out it's original directory now.

Dave47

Well I reinstalled 1 month old 2.0.19 directory and database and upgraded that with smf 2.1.1 upgrade with all mods removed, now got smiles back in reply as it should be, then replaced messages in the database with today's file and went to repair_settings.php & admin / maintenance and asked it check for errors, looks back to normal apart for youtube video, that have black windows with errors.

Smileys fitted anyway.

Kindred

replacing PART of your database contents (especially just the messages table) is guaranteed to be a BAD idea.

Kindred is correct.

If you continue to experience issues, what you want to do is:
1) Restore your working 2.0.x forum, DB and files.
2) **Confirm it is working properly as a 2.0.x forum.**  E.g., if you have moved it, run repair_settings.php now.  The upgrader works great on fully operational forums.  The upgrader cannot work properly if the settings are incorrect.
3) Run the upgrader.

It did not give me issues, looks to be working now but thanks

Kindred

If the only table that you updated was the messages table, then I guarantee it is **NOT** working correctly -- no matter what it currently APPEARS to be doing.

There are connected tables and contents that also need to be updated. Very little in the SMF database is "stand-alone" -- most of it is interconnected with information being spread between multiple tables.

What you are doing is a VERY bad idea, @HomeBrewDave2. Data corruption will be inevitable, no matter how well things might initially appear to work, and it will probably be impossible to fix.

You should do what shawnb61 said in his post:

I understand what your saying, I have backups and I've been updating some of what you saying manually, it's that or lost month because last database looks to be corrupted anyway, can't get that to work.
This forum is around 10 years old and it's see its share of errors.

Am not concerned over it, I would not recommend anybody doing it.

Thanks
